Hi everyone,
my computer froze yesterday and i turned him on and windows started i got a error window called "Advanced INF Install, directory not found"

XP wont load my user settings anymore, it always loads the standart XP crap, flowers and sky in the background, all links are gone as well as Favorites, tasklist is [censored] up...

any ideas on how to fix this ? I already tried a virsu scan and a hijack search, no results. In addition everything i recreate my own settings and start XP again, the whole problem appears again, seems to be a loop..

That is kind of a universal error message. All windows ver, Office 2000, Samba, Some Intel software and drivers. And like many errors, it says very little without an index number to go with it. I'd start by patching office if it is not up to date, then move to a repair of XP. If that leaves no joy, then do a full restore. I would hope that you had a ghost img. file, but XP's restore will do in a pinch.

Hey, just in case anyone wants to know: I had little success using AVGuard and HiJackThis, as well as Spybot destroy. I finally realized i may be able to just type

Advanced INF Install error user setting reset

into google and i got a nice thread where one has the same problem like me, just a year ago. I fact i "just" had to edit the registry, delete a few numbers, delete my user and recreate a new user. Of course i first had to "save" my Usersettings in the windowsfolder.
