That's right, it is moving to the irc.freenode.net server group. Additionally, the channel name is changing to #SpaceEmpires, to be more general for when SE5 is released. Check the official web site for further information:

There is some confusion over the NickServ commands on the new server... nothing major.

It's slower.

This is a handy link that will show you How to register and setup your nick (http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#nicksetup)

Oh and in step 6 they don't tell you how to authenticate your name at login, if you have a 'perform buffer' type thing like in trillian just type the following in the buffer..

/msg nickserv identify <password>; /join #spaceempires

don't place the < > brackets, just your password that you registered by following the first 5 steps in the above link.

I hope this helps, Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Edit: Slower? well, be honest now. it's slower to login, but once you're logged everything seems to run smoothe.

That's what I meant. I posted that 41 minutes ago and it's about 4:00 now. In the morning. I'm going to sleep.

Trillian is refusing to save the new server.

I got the same freaky problem. And because of that I labeled it a %^@#%&^program. First my computer breaks down and then I discover that Trillian is a %^@#%&^ program. Ah well, things will improve, I'm sure of it... eventualy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I gave up on trillian months ago when I upgraded to ADSL and it refused to recognise that I was Online. I'll just wait for a Version of the companion that supports the new server/channel.

The Companion is great. All hail the Companion.

I knew Trillian was junk after about 2 weeks of using it when it starting screwing up itself and all my other programs. I uninstalled rather quickly at that point.

Trillian doesn't give me any problems, aside from the inability to transfer files via Irc and Msn.

I have seen it lose a custom server once or twice in the Last few years of using it, but never seen it not save it at all... how many times have you added it, once or twice?

You can change the server/channel manually by going to the settings and clicking on the IRC option button.

I see Fyron is already taking precautions against the inevitable flow of traffic generated when Aaron Hall develops SE:X. The IRC Channel would be....interesting to say the least http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Shouldn't the topic now read #se4 IRC channel has moved?

*Update* The server name stuck one of the Last times.

*Bump*

For the new forum members who might not have heard of it.

#spaceempires is the new name. Ignore the name in the thread.

Doesn't it have to be capitalized? #SpaceEmpires

IRC is case in-sensitive. So you could join #SPACEEMPIRES, or #sPACEeMPIRES, or #sPaCeEmPiReS, or #spaceempires... and it would all be the same channel.
