Well, I seem to be needing a FREE downloadable program for converting .dat files to .wav files, and back again. If anyone knows of such a program, I would be most grateful if you could provide me a link to it. Thanks a lot!

Winamp can play (most of the time) audio .dat files without the need for conVersion, and some video files can play video .dat files also without the need for conVersion.
But to answer your main question directly, no, I don't know of a free converter. Have you tried searching Tucows.com?

I can play the .dat files, but I have a need to do the actual conVersion, playing isn't the problem. And nope, I haven't searched tucows.com yet, I'll do that right now. Thanks for the tip!

Isn't there a plugin to Winamp that saves the played files as wave files.
I haven't used Winamp in years but I think I remember such a plug-in.

Renegade, try this...
Download this. (http://www.riverpast.com/en/download/index.php) You want the 3rd item listed there; River Past Audio Converter.
Then follow these instructions. (http://www.riverpast.com/en/support/tutorials/convert/dat/wav.php)
I don't know how well this works but it came up in a search I did.
The conveter is $30 to buy but I am sure it has a 30 day evaluation that will allow you to convert what you need real quick.
Edit: Further searching brought this up... Try this. (http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/WAV_Players_and_Editors/Audio_Video_To_Wav_Converter.html) It is free and it says it converts .dat to .wav.
It's homepage... (http://www.008soft.com/index.htm)

Thanks Ruatha and Ragnarok. I already tried the River Past Audio Converter, it has a limit of 2 minutes of audio conVersion until you register, which is far too little. But thanks. I'm currently trying the other link you provided Rags, and Ruatha, I might try Winamp if the newest try doesn't work. Thanks again.
