Sorry for the newbie question. But I seem to have plenty of resources but I'm cranking out research and ships at a very low speed.. How can I increase this?

research shipyards to up the tech level and then upgrade your facilities.

or before you start the game take a bnus in your construction ability

or select temporal tech to get temporal shipyards

or any combination of the above.

Another good way to build up your fleet is to build base stations equipped with the space yard component. They build slower than their planetary counterparts. But if you have fifty or sixty going at once, you can amass a pretty good size fleet in no time.

To increase your research output, you just have to build more Research Labs at your colonies.

The fastest way is to make sure that your population on your largest populated worlds are very happy.

You get production bonuses for population size and happiness.

Also remember that you can use emergency build for a short burst of production.
