I can't believe this, I have to vote in my own poll to see the results.

Just so you all know, I'll be the one who voted "I didn't care", in order to keep the poll's integrity. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Shiney is king no more! Long live king Glowy!

Seriously, those are very good images.

As a side note, the moon looks kinda like the Death Star.

That's my new wallpaper. Hope you don't mind.

Explain "glow". (do you mean on the engines?)

Glow as in the light coming off from the very very bright strip(s) of white in the middle of the hulls of the ships on that picture.

I like the brightness of the top and bottom ship, but find that the glow of the middle ship is somewhat overwhelming.

I like the ships overall. The glow gives the impression that the ships are charging up to unleash some serious punishment.

There, my vote.

I voted for the third option - it's a little too bright as is.

Oh, as a sidenote, to all you DoGA modelers, you might notice that the planets are rendered doga parts, and not a static background.

The glow looks good! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

The moon looks oval-shaped... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

Yeah, things get distorted like that when you render near the edge of a wide-angle camera... ever played Starfury? and flown past a planet at quarter speed? Very nausea inducing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

You know I like the glowyness http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

It is much better than the alternative: an ugly flat yellow box!

Very good ships. Only two complaints: The glowy stripe on the first ship looks kinda fake. And, um, so does the blue strip on the bridge?.

/me gives 5/5 stars.

what do you mean by Fake? As in it looks flat?

Well, I hate to say it, but it looks like somebody pasted it onto a picture.

TerranC

That's probably because the glow is lower than what you've seen: the glow on the ships in the wallpaper you've seen before had their glow settings on max; the ship you see over there has it's glow settings at 200% - compared to the 500% max setting.

Also, the first picture ship has less glowing parts the the other ships shown so far, so that might lead to its fake (which is not fake) look.

Kamog

Well, I think the reason the yellow stripe might look fake is because the dividing line between the grey metal of the ship and glowing stripe is too abrupt. When we look at the white glowing rectangular section on the engine on the third ship, that glow doesn't look fake because the white part is inside an inset - the glow is coming from a recessed area. The glowing stripe isn't recessed, so the edges of the stripe look too simple and therefore "fake".

Well, actually, I was thinking of the first ship, not the third. But the reasoning is sound.
