I don't know if this has been asked before, Is there a way to start some Races off at a higher tech. While haveing others at basic techs

Simply put (I don't mean to be rude): no.

You could do it in a scenario, where you'd take control of some races, develop their tech as you play the game while leaving other races in the dust, and save that game where you've developed the races you wanted to start off technologically advanced as a scenario and play that, but there is no way that you can do something like in from the game setup.

If you really had nothing better to do, making two different tech trees would work, much in the same way as Adamant's paradigms. One of the tech trees would be regular, and the other one would have the very same technologies, but requiring the "special" tech tree trait.

That solution is heavy-duty however, and going the scenario way would be much quicker than remaking a new tech tree.

Thanks for the answer, I think the first one will be the first thing I will do but eventually I will go the second way. But while Im asking questions, Is there anyway to crop files and only change the first word in them?? Like with the different Race pics, Im trying to make minor differences between a ship set but in order to use the unaltered on and the altered on I have to change the name of the folder and everything in it

Get a program such as CKRename. I think it can be found on www.tucows.com (http://www.tucows.com) or www.download.com (http://www.download.com) . Google will result in a link either way. Free, and a very powerful file renamer.

Another way to do it is make a map in the map editor with a bunch of high-value ruins planets in some races' starting systems. Ruatha did that for our PBW game (Nearly Gods: the Conflict 5).
