In the SE4 Modder program by David G. (which is an awsome program) when modifying components and in particilar weapons there are (3) Tabs: 1st=Damage at Range (self explanatory), 2d=Value at Range, and 3rd=Alpha Strike at Range.
What is the purpose of the 2d and 3rd options, how do they work??
Thanks

How do they work?
Just hold your mouse over them and you'll get a tooltip.
What is their use?
To compare weapons based on their range, ROF (Rate Of Fire) and their damage.

ROF, Damage, and SIZE.

I saw how to use the tool tip...thanks
APB1:
Damage at Range: 1=20, 2=15, 3=15 (got it.)
Value at Range: 1=.66, 2=.5, 3=.5
Alha strike at Range: 1=.66, 2=.5, 3=.5
You said it was used "To compare weapons based on their range, ROF (Rate Of Fire) and their damage"
Maybe I'm being dense...I still dont understand what it is showing me or what it is comparing..

I don't know which is which, but one of Value and Alpha Strike is damage/size and the other is damage/(size*ROF).

It would seem that Alpha Strike would imply the first strike (rate doesn't matter for the first shot of a weapon), seeing as "alpha" is the first letter in the Greek alphabet. It often means first, whereas "omega" tends to be Last.

Why don't we simply ask the guy who made the modder? Have him explain it.

Because DavidG doesn't seem to come around very often any more...

Well in the mean time, you can download AIC from SpaceEmpires.net: AIC Download (http://www.spaceempires.net/home/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetail s&lid=302&ttitle=AI_Campaign#dldetails)
I think I have the latest Version on there, but am not sure...

Actually I did send him an IM (or whatever its called on here) asking him to answer in this forum so we could all figure it out.
And I do have the Lastest AIC...my problem with it was the map editor not working with Mods I guess...but thanks

I often wonder how large our MIA situation is. I figure around 2,500 members unoffically.

Because maybe he doesn't know either. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif I forget who sugested I add this (the sugestion is posted somewhere here) but I think in general the tell you how good the weapon is compared to it's size and fire rate and how good it is as a first strike weapon.
If anyone really wants to know the formula e-mail me and I'll check out the code.
P.S. BOOO I'm still alive.

That you are, nice to see you posting again. Are you going to go back to lurking or are you going to stay a little while longer and maybe work on the modder again? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Ah, maybe I'll get to that first, once I get that universal Malfador data file reader finished... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
(Hmm, I wonder what happened to that project anyway... it's not depending on the expression evaluator to be redone or anything - it would be nice to have the ability built-in to an SE4-Modder type tool to generate components and such from templates, but that could be done in the background while the user is working or I could require the user to save each item individually so the generation time is barely noticed... of course in SE5 the templates won't even be necessary since we'll have formulas to play with in the data files themselves http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
