When you ask the AI to trade for, say, Ship Construction... what determines what level of Tech you receive? If you only have Destroyer and the AI can build Baseships, are you given Light Cruiser or something else? How can you ask for a specific tech level?

(p.s. I hope in SE5 the tech report on the AI is a bit more informative. The Techs Report Intelligence project isn't complete, and unless you write it down on a piece of paper you tend to forget the levels since there are so many different techs.)

You will get one level per inclusion of the technology in the trade. So, if you only have Destroyers, you will get Light Cruisers if you ask for one level of Ship Construction.

If you wanted to get enough levels to reach Dreadnoughts, you would have to add Ship Construction several times to your list (five levels if you already have Destroyers), assuming your trade partner has enough levels to give you.

The Ai is designed to be semi clever in accepting or denying tech trades. However the AI is not all that smart when it comes to trades.

I do hope in SE V Aaron adds a value marker to each tech so that the AI knows whats a good tech or not.
