Lets say you have a ship with one Security Station V (220 anti-personnel) on it. First, in turn based combat you get boarded by a ship that uses two Boarding Parties V (200 personnel). Naturally you successfully defended against the boarders. What happens if a second ship then Boards you with one Boarding Party V (100 personnel)?
Do you win because the odds are STILL 220 to 100, or do you lose because you only have 20 "remaining"?
Thanks much.

Its still 220+(16x #crew quarters) vs 100

Don't they use up all security stations in the first ship's attack? I figure they would be defenceless? No?

No. Security stations are either destroyed completely in a successful boarding attempt, or they are completely unphased. Yet another one of those all or nothing problems...

Well, that's kinda cool actually. Too bad the AI never uses borders, and most people rarely use them on PBW either (so far as I've seen)

That is because it is way too easy to deploy self destruct devices on all ships... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif

Thanks for the replies. The odd part about all this is that this "all or nothing rules" only applies to ATTACKING boarding parties.
In a failed attack attempt (you should have done the math and not attack to begin with basically), all your boarding parties die and all defending boarding parties AND security stations survive.
But in a successful attack attempt, all your boarding parties still die, but any defending parties that were there are now yours.
Stranger still, if you have 10 boarding parties and there is only 1 unit of defender, you will always send ALL of the parties aboard, the defender will be captured, all 10 parties will be destroyed and the defending party surviving. The inabilitiy to choose how many boarding parties to send will leave your ship completely empty and vulnerable to other boarders unless you have a self destruct device.
It seems two things should happen :
1. If the defender loses, any defending parties or security stations should be destroyed.
2. The boarder should be able to specify how many units to send over (and always "used up" in the process).
What do you think?

Make security stations and boarding parties use the same component?
