A researchable component that makes it possible to build Resupply bases in the middle of nowhere.

Could be useful..

Quantum reactor. Or whatever it's called. Same effect, isn't it?

Well, it might be nice to have some kind of component that you could place on a ship that works like a resupply facility and has the effect of resupplying other ships in the sector. Something that is available before a quantum reactor, but maybe is harder to manage in some way (keep quantum reactor still effective). Limitations might be a large mineral cost, or a large kt size (~= 300kt), or only buildable on Bases, or destroyed after resuplying X (=~ 15) ships???

Right now, you just have to move your ship into the same sector as a planet with a Resupply Depot and move it out again in the same turn fully resupplied. But to resupply at a space station, you have to form it up in a fleet with the station and leave it for a turn before it resupplies. It would be pretty cool if Malfador changed it so you just need to enter the same sector as a space station in order to resupply. Or, if they would just let your ship resupply automatically without needing to add your ship/fleet to the same fleet as the base.

On the other hand, I wonder if it should be changed the other way--i.e. that your ship should have to stop for an entire turn to resupply at a planet. Shouldn't it take a while to resupply a ship before it goes on its way?

A Quantum reactor, I havn´t researched that yet.

Huge tech tree, got to love this game!!!!

Is that a ship component or a planet facility?

The Quantum Reactor is a ship component. If you add the QR to a ship, it never runs out of supplies, and if you add a ship containing a QR to the fleet, the fleet never runs out of supplies. You can get this by researching Resupply to the end. Very nice component. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Might be a silly Q but if you have a QR in a Fleet do you need to have the cargo contaners in the others??????

There are no silly questions. Never.

Well, except what music you listen to while you are playing. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Nope. You don't need any supply storage on your other ships. Your engines have the ability to store supplies, and just one Quantum Reactor in the fleet will keep all your engines stocked with supplies.

I guess you need some supplies for the parts which need more supply per turn (like some SM comps.). Your weaponry also needs supplies, but maybe the engine supplies are enough for combats ?!?

Design A space Station with only a bridge, 2 crew qtrs and 2 life support. (makes it fast to build)

Build it somewhere useful using a Mobile ship yard - then fleet your ships with it. They will be fully resupplied on the next turn.

I've discovered a little trick to this, though. The non-QR ships will resupply at the end of a turn; so, if you use a lot of supplies in a given turn, you can still run fairly low (long movement plus long combat will do this; so will Stellar Manipulations). I'm also not completely certain that the resupply occurs if your ships are moving. I've had fleets with movement orders that take multiple turns to complete end up with many ships low on supply, even though I have a QR ship in the fleet. More testing is probably required...

All that has to be done is change the "Supply Generation" ability to work for components. Currently it does not. I've been thinking of giving the ability to a Base HULL to see if it works that way. Gotta try that one of these days. It would be great to have a base work like a resupply depot and not have to fleet with it.
