Ok now that we have a ship set coming which looks like a Klingon Dagger... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I was realizing that we have "I looked at a xxxxxx and saw a ship set"
A) swords
B) pie plates (those UFO guys)
C) lego's
D) my computer (borg has the box design covered)
E) my out-of-control rose bush
F) birds of prey
G) ones that look like a kid blowing bubbles made them
H) various "thats a cool car.. hmmmm...." looking ones
I) military ships at sea look
J) candelabra
K) a rock
L) geodes and gems

Hmmm Im sure there are more but those are just off the top of my head. Anyway I thought Id just start a thread where someone might toss in some real ideas of "look at this and thing ship set". Serious ones please. I already posted a number of links in another thread which can spark race designs (maybe I should thread that also). I think this thread could be interesting. Maybe even some links to images Online which show why you think it would work.

Dirigables? Alligator? Dolphin? Keyboard letters Y H W A?

M) a large trashcan (the square ones with wheels) tipped on it's side.

(always makes me think of B5 for some reason)

Has anyone else here built spaceship models from household bits and pieces?
My brother and I have built 2. We even built a 6'x6' diorama (sp?) in which to photograph them but it got demolished when I moved. Both were based on Gatorade bottles so:

I saw a "home terrarium" kit that looked like a flying domed ship.

Maybe something based on fancy aquarium fish. Angel fish? Long tailed goldfish and long tailed guppies?

Maybe an uprooted tree flying thru the air?

My niece is playing with those baby beads. big colored pLastic beads that you stick together to make a necklace.

All I see is a blue grid when I close my eyes.

EDITED: the original links worked fine for me but apparently caused problems for others

There should be a chess shipset... Perfect for SJ's old chess scenario! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

True http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Did you see the thread where I gave some links I found from "monster masks" "alien masks" and 'action figures"? Great material for racial images

Parachute. My notion of solar sailing ship is based upon shapes of parachute.

Pen, crewdriver, dart - natural model for spaceship or missile.

Any chaotic conglomeration of geometric forms - spaceship of the race, which is smart enough to understand that cool aerodynamic look is irrelevant in vacuum.

Neat - But could you please edit the links so as to be smaller, GP?

Some things I've seen that make me think (shipset)

Football (one of the ships I designed is basically just a flattened football with several other small footballs connected to it)

Broadsword (Chinese Style Do): The shape just screamed "Make a ship out of me" though I still can't seem to perfect that sharp angle.

Chinese Wind and Fire Wheels: Again great shape for an "ancient" starship, yet can't get the right look.

The originals are still breaking the page formatting... please edit them. Simply inserting text instead of the URL for the link label would suffice.

That wasn't the problem. The links lead to the target websites without error. The problem was that the text was so long that it broke the table formatting on this thread page, especially in Gecko-based browsers...

I HAD one.... my HD went toasty fried and I lost it. It was almost finished too, I haven't had the time or incentive to get back into Doga and try again http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/yawn.gif. It had butterfiels with glowy wings towing large chryslalii of various colors and opacities around with protruding spines and markings.

THAT sounds cool. Towing a chrysallis would be a nice touch for adding the necessary non-butterfly features.

The topic still exists, it is just VERY far down the list, like from '03. There are a few demo pics I did down there, as well as a few "brainstorm pics" I did.
