View Full Version : Mephisto! Tiny bug in your mod...
Codo
March 3rd, 2001, 04:54 PM
I'm playing your TDM_ModPack_1.60 and saw a small bug... I was playing as the Earth Alliance, and sent a diplomatic message to someone, and at the bottom of the diplomatic Messages screen it said:
'As the [%OurEmperorTitel] of the Earth Alliance...'
Just thought I'd let you know. It's not a big bug, its not a small bug, its just a itty-bitty teeny-tiny bug... But thought you might want to know anyways...
What file do I go to to edit this?

question: did you play them as an existing race or "new" race? if new, did you add the emoror/leader's name in race "design"?
just a thought..

Its the speech file!
[%OurEmperorTitel]
should be
[%OurEmperorTitle]
notice the subtle difference?
One adds in a predefined tag, The Emperor name, the first adds in a load of random Jargon. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
do a search for [%OurEmperorTitel] and replace it with 'Title'.
Damn stupid computers, can't they recoginise anything. . .

Have just gone through the EA speech file that I downloaded. Found 4x[OurEmperorTitel], 1x [OurEmperortitel] (lower case), 1x[OutEmpireName] and 1x [SystemName] (no "%").
Is that what everyone else has found?

I just encountered the Narn. I want to post the name of the person who created this shipset and thank him here but I can't tear myself away from the game long enough to look it up. They are beautiful!
Ah, found it. Randy Stulce created the Narn shipset. Eventually, I'll stop looking at them and press 'End Turn'. Also, Nyx Xi'Chung speech file is just as good as his Darloke speech file. You gotta, gotta play a game with the Xi'Chung in there. Very cool.

Thanks for the hint, guys! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
It's sometimes hard to find these small spelling errors especially as English is not my native language.
Short example:
English: "Title"
German: "Titel"
Old habits die hard, even more in spelling. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

As an Australian, I occaisionally get caught out by American spellings - eg Armor rather than Armour (English).
There are traps for all of us outside of the US!

I bet I mispelled something. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon12.gif
Some of us with English as first language do worse.

You do awesome for English not being your native tongue, Mephisto!
Heck, English is mine and I can barely understand the jargon in the data files. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/tongue.gif heh heh

Here, Here!
Two of my Favorites (those that bug me more than normal) which I see frequently Online, where you have to type to speak, are:
Then instead of Than (this one really gets me...its basic diction);
Their, There & They're (I don't think anyone gets these right).

For me it's "your" (belongs to you) and "you're" (you are).
Related:
"its" (belongs to it) and "it's" (it is)
Or something like that. Too early in the morning. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

P.S. Spyder, isn't it 'hear, hear'? I'm such a bastard. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon12.gif

I really don't know Zen http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif I always thought 'Here, Here'
But, you're correct...mistakes between Your & You're I see a whole lot also and should have been on my list...
the It's and its is less of a problem because the meaning is relatively clear in context...the others sometimes require re-reading the text to get their meaning....
