I was given a slightly older computer by a friend of mine this week because he bought a brand new one. Since he also got a fairly impressive software package with his new one, he's passed all the older stuff over to me.

The machine isn't as good as what I'm already running so it will probably become a tester and possible parts but the software pack has CorelDraw Suite 11!!

Now, I want to get into attempting some shipsets and hope to eventually become capable enough to design 3d shipsets by the time SEV comes out.

My Question: What all can CorelDraw do, and where do I begin?

I would begin with a google search of the topic. That might be your best bet to get going. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Isn't Corel Draw like photoshop? I have one old edition of it, 5 I think, and it's a verry funtional graph maker, photo editor, the Version I have is capable of some animation, and 3D effects in drawings, but no real 3D editing rendering or mesh modeling. My Version is 5 but I'm pretty sure that what you got is something along the lines of Photoshop/Paintshop Pro. Great for 3D textures however.

To create 3D models you'd need something like Blender (http://www.blender3d.com/), Wings 3D (http://www.wings3d.com/) , Anim8or (http://anim8or.com/) , or something similar. IIRC Corel's 3D suite is called Bryce.
