PBW, that is a 100% real pic from my digital camera.
The only thing I did was convert it to PNG format.

Nice. But this picture on the screen has no spherical distortion, which was typical for such monitors.
But if it's true ... I still have a functional zx-80 machine somewhere so I'm ready to join the team http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

You must be suicidal, because if I get my hands on you i'll snap your neck for that http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. But seriously, when can we expect the Beta to start?. Not for a few months I imagine.

On my first attempt, I tried scaling the width down to 320, and then cropped the vertical to 200. That generated plenty of distortion.
Since the original pics are fullscreen-shaped, the way to go is to just force 320x200 without worrying about the proportions. Looks distorted in transit, works out fine in the end.

What is that, an old apple or something? Any whoo, my TRS-80 should qualify me for the older machine beta. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

We got it at home from NCR around 1984; handful of Mhz CPU (14-ish?), full 640k ram, 10 meg HD, slightly pre-CGA video card.
DOS v2.11, Quickbasic with compiler, Sopwith and Star Control (along with innumerable QB games written by me & my bro).

HAhahaha!!!! LOL!!!
Now that's funny!
It reminds me of a pic I saw when Doom 3 came out. There was a pic with an old computer with a screenshot on it asking for disk #666. And in front of the computer were a few HUGE stacks of floppy disks. Haha, it was so funny.

Have you seen sopwith2?
Its the same as the first until you win.
Then it levels up, so the buildings carry AA guns and everything goes a little bit faster http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Okay, how does one get into the beta?
Fyron
December 6th, 2004, 04:39 PM
One does not, as there is no beta yet. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Once Malfador announces the opening of beta testing applications, you would send whatever information they ask for via email, and they decide who the want to invite into the beta testing.

I would guess that the following criteria would enter into it:
- people known personally by Aaron.
- people with a history of quality testing
- people who stand out in the community for problem solving
- people who own fringe hardware. (so as to get a healthy mix of hardware over all the testers)
- winners of the Race to SE5 tournament
- people with modding experience
- people with modeling experience
- multilingual people
- etc

Also of interest when selecting beta testers,.. people with modding experience. Ship Modeleing experience (to test adding new user made ships to the game via modding) and speaking more than one language to help iron out (or help) with text translations.
One important factor, is having lots of time to thoroughly test the game. (again and again, and again)
