Atrocities

Just once before I kick off I would like to actually finish a game of SEIV. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
It has occured to me that although I have won many games of SE IV both SP and PBW, (No PBEM OR PBIM) I have never finished a game of SE IV.
By finish I mean colonize all the planets. Turn all the asteroids into planets. Turn all planets into ideal breathable atmosphers. Have a ring or sphere world around every star. Kill every black hole, nebula, organic infestation, other and put a star in the system with a ring or sphere world around it. Actually have 20,000 ships.
Be the supreme ruler of my galaxy. (Leave one planet untouched as to have at least one AI player.)
When I do kick off, I want to take my SEIV Gold CD with me. Do they allow pLastic to be cremated with you? A morbid question, but you never know unless you ask.

Is such a thing possible, to actually finish a game.

I'd probably get bored. Not enough interesting 'peace' stuff to do.

I have only finished a couple of games ever, in which the "you have won" message came up, and that was a long time ago. I usually start a new game after a few hundred turns because I get bored. I have never come close to colonizing every planet. I don't think I've even explored the entire quadrant for 255-system quadrant.

I once had a problem with a game and had to switch to running the AI. I did not have auto save on so I was manually saving the game. I forgot to do so and ran over 200 turns before I switched over to the AI to see what they were doing. Ya I know its considered cheating, but I was curious. When I switched back I marked all of them as AI player and guess what happened next........

Unless you count the times I've started a game with JUST my empire (in which case the "You have won" dialog pops up immediately) then I've never finished one either http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I've always abandoned them pretty soon after it was clear I'd won, or just lost interest, or hit a stalemate.

I've never beaten a game, everytime I come close either the comp crashes or it just gets dull repetition after it's just me and one other empire left dividing up half the universe and them having those irritating gravity shield generators that totally scew with a quick chance to end the game by invading them at three or four points at once!

I never finish the whole map because I lose interest once there is no longer a challenge.
Edit: removed some personal stuff I have come to think no one really cares about.

ah don't worry Narf I don't care about arguments or anything http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. I just realised that even I am sick of going on about what I think so likely no one else would care to hear it.
Edit: anyway lets just shutup about all that stuff and let the thread get back to what its supposed to be about.

If you would take your SE IV CD into the grave here in Holland. You would be sued for poluting the environment. Be carefull with what you bring with you.
There was a very disturbing story in a few newspapers here in Holland.
A man woke up and wanted to go with his car to his work. He stepped outside to get into his car. All he found was a burned down heap of metal ni front of his house. The police didn't want to come to conduct a forensic investigation (I don't know why). But their colleagues (the traffic-wardens) did come to fine the man. They fined the man because his parking free-card wasn't visible.
Now that's a truely criminal act. I would be sooo pissed when that would have happened to me. I woyuld consult one of the lawyers on this forum and bring those @$$h0!e$ to justice. And try to find the bastards which burned down my car.
So be careful what you do hewre in Holland, we have rules for everything and the most honest person probabely gets the largest part of trouble.

I 'WIN' every game I play.. I set the game to 'No enemy' and 'No neutrals' and the game starts up with "You Win!" Do you want to continue? LOL Is this cheating? Maybe, but you have to realize I suck at strategy, I have yet to beat the stock AI and therefore have no hope in hell of ever winning, so I set my goals to what AT said, explore all systems, populate all systems, convert all planets, research all techs, and dream about starting a new game with that big bad *** ship I managed to build at the end of all tech levels. Oh what I would give to have that monster at the start of a new game, I would have an even chance of beating the AI. LOL
nuf said, Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Oh man that is just taking it way to far. Perhaps those Americans who want to move to Canada would prefer to move to Holland instead. Sounds like their kind of country. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Any ways, yes, I would dispute the ticket and demand an investigation. Most likely he offended the Traffic Police there.

I don't know what the good man said to the traffic wardens, but it's likely he didn't say a word and accepted it for the time being. The traffic wardens have more power (by lack of a better word) nowadays. They can arrest you or fine you again if you are not very nice to them. It's really rediculous. There's a whole discussion in some newspapers about this incident. I hope good things will come of it.
I'll keep you guys posted when I hear/read something new and intersting about this case.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. When the police are given discretionary powers that lack defination and have no built in eithical code, then they cease to be a policing force and become a state sanctioned criminal organization.
When you see this a lot, then you know that your living under an oppressive government.
Most likely the government in Holland will oppose any changes to the system they now have in place and those who attempt to force change will pay a horrible price. I would say watch your back and trust no one would be good advice for your news paper people.

In a Rural Part of England where traffic wardens can really kill off business in small towns by annoying customers a shop keeper had the greatest idea. Whenever they appeared whoever saw them would ring this one shop, the owner had an old wind up Air Raid Siren which he activated alerting all customers to move their cars... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
