Try this experiment:

1. Build fighters at a planet and press End Turn.
2. Now, launch the fighters from the planet and then try to move them after they have been launched. It should say they have no movement points left. Now, build some more fighters and press End Turn.
3. Launch the new fighters from the planet.

In 1.19, you would end up with two different Groups. But in 1.27b, you have just one group.

4. Now, try to move the new group. I would *think* you shouldn't be able to. But you can!

Just after launching the fighters from the planet but before merging the Groups, you should have one group with *some* movement and one group with *no* movement. Right now, it is giving the group the max instead of the min between the two Groups.

I think this is a bug. What do y'all think? Would someone else please test this?

Sounds like a bug all right. Please, report this to MM with a savegame included.

Thats a bug, but whats the solution?
Should the fighter group be averaged or not?
Would it be better to have two separate fighter Groups?

In theory the new fighter group should have a movement of '0' because the max the group can move, and still stay as a group is '0'.

I think there should be an option where you can change the fighter group, much like a fleet. However, MM haven't left the button space on their navbar for extenions! :-\

I think you should be allowed to merge & split fighter squadrons as needed. This means that when a group of fighters is built, they are assigned a new squadron designator unless you merge them into another squadron. If you were to merge them into another squadron, then, like fleets, their supplies (and movement) should be averaged.

Yes, this is a bug. Previously there was a bug with mines that created a seperate mine group every time you dropped mines in a sector. Silly, since mines don't have to maneuver in combat. You only need ONE group of mines in any sector. But whatever was changed to fix this also applied to al other units. So now you can only have ONE group of any type of unit, mines, satellites, or fighters, in any sector on the strategic map. This is a disaster for both satellites and fighters as you have seen. Hopefully there will be a better solution for the next patch that will allow multiple Groups for sats and fighters while still restricting mines.
