I didn't want to toot, but thanks for tooting me Fyron. I have now been officially tooted which I guess makes me a tootie (or is that tootee?) hmmm, Regardless,..
Merry Christmas Everyone. If you want to have some fun, let's see you post a back-story to match this pic,.. Nothing too elaborate, a paragraph or two is fine.
Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
P.S. If people want a slightly cleaner Version of this pic, I can post or send the .bmp Version.

Very nice work David! Real cool ship you got there. Which race cruises around the galaxy in ships like that?
Oh and please post the "clean" Version, I want to use it as a desktop in my office at work.

Here is the .bmp Version of the pic. Enjoy!
P.S. The line throught the message text is there for effect. It's intent is to get people debating it's true meaning. Which is the supreme secret of the galaxy and is not SE5 related. But the short answer is because I felt like putting a line there. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
What, no creative backstories yet? hmmm..
"Down on the Ice planet Fezron, the ancient ship rests frozen in time waiting to be discovered by off-world explorers. Hidden within its depths are treasures beyond immagination,.. Technologies long forgotten,.. Secrets waiting to be revealed,.. and Perilous Dangers ready to spring out at any and all unsuspecting explorers."
Something like that, or you can got the comic route.. Next!
Cheers!

Looks like an event picture to me.
Colonists on the planet Sutra, an ice planet in the Tyrellia system, discover an ancient alien ship embedded in the mile-thick ice. Upon melting the ice, engineers swarmed over the ship, examining all parts. However, once what appears to be the bridge was uncovered, a long-deactivated security device activated. It was chaos, as the hundereds of engineers were slaughtered mercilessly. None were spared. However, the engineers did manage to make a key discovery before their untimely deaths. The information transmitted to the orbitting satellites has revealed the way to construct efficient and deadly anti-personnel devices on ships. From this you gain the technology to build Security Stations on your ships.

It looks like a Pandoran ship, but I can't tell which one. It doesn't appear to match any on the chart.

Basically the dev team is Aaron, Myself, and several other artists woring on models, components, facilities etc. I'm not sure if there are any other 'programmers' working on this with Aaron, but there might be. I also expect there are others working on the project in different capacities. Since I don't at the current time have a full list of the members of the dev team, I thought it best to simply apply our holiday wishes on everyon's behalf. If I were to list the few names I have, then there would no doubt be several people left out of the greeting. This more 'general' approach to the e-card seemed the best solution.
That was a good question, thanks

That ship must have been caught in a super storm where ultra-cold air from the upper troposphere was transfered to the surface, which corresponded in temperatures of -150°C within seconds. The fuel-lines then froze, and the ship crashed. /threads/images/Graemlins/Cold.gif

No, it means I used one of AT's starbase models in this render to give it a more sci-fi feel. Did I choose wrong to make an 'Ice Planet' render for xmas? I thought it was apropriate.
This is not to say that AT won't ever Mod-in this starbase once the game is out http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

The wind moaned softly around her upright spires as the snow finally began to settle on a hull now cool enough for it not to melt. A crackling groan briefly overwhelmed the wind's noise as the water around the stranded hulk refroze, trapping the ship in it's icy grip. Inside, though her life support is fully functional, the atmosphere is no less icy. The two occupants of the ship sit side by side, staring at the viewscreen that shows only drifting whiteness. Finally, one turns it's four eyes to fix the other with an accusing glare, and spoke for the first time since the crash.

I think I remember Aaron saying that an 8-Track tape will be included with the game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif But seriously, I'll have to throw this question at Aaron to get the real answer.
As to planets and suns, Right now many of the planet textures are from Starfury, and I have made about 100 new ones Plus Aaron also creates some in spare moments. (most of the background planets you have seen in my teasers have been made into textures.)
Cheers!
P.S. As Lead Artist some of the Artwork I have done (and am doing) are as follows.. UI, Event Pictures, Finale Pictures, Planet Surface Pictures, Empire Flags, etc, etc, etc (Basically what is not covered by the other artists. Also Aaron does throw in some of his own work as mentionned above)
