The Large Transport. I just finished this set with this image. I am kinda proud of them.

The race will be named the Saturian Commonwealth - Thank you David. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I really have to say that I am very pleased with how this set has come together. Who would have thought that with just one image I could whip together a completed set in two days. I really like how the carriers and especially the transports came out. (I am most pleased.)

Now comes the hard part, writing a back story and setting up the EMP files. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif (Actually easy, and really doesn't take up a lot of time, but I am hungry and well, lazy too.)

I will get around to it very shortly. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

To bad the mini's cannot keep the detail as they get smaller. Oh well.

Atrocities, you've done it again; I think this is your best shipset so far. It's sets like these that make me want to install DoGA again.

If I had to grade this shipset, out of 5, I would give it 10. This is simply awesome work.

Thank you. I am really proud of the set as well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Okay, so slightly off topic but I do notice that alot of you guys use doga to model the shipsets with. Is it a free program? If not about how much would it cost?

Anyways, realy nice shipset.

You might want to bypass Doga and use a program more capable of creating 3d models for use in-game, rather than just rendering 2d images. Doga can render great 2d images (such as Atrocities' work), but it sucks for games that use real time rendering, as the polygon count of the models is way too high. This will allow you to make models that can be used both in SE4 and SE5. Surely somebody will post links to their favorite modelers.

DOGA is free to use, but many of us have paid the $40.00 us to registar it.

DOGA is a great 3d tool, better than most in its price range, and is being used in games and believe it or not, tv in Japan.

But Fyron is correct the polygons are exceptionaly high for use with real time rending games like SF and SE V.

Beautiful work! I think the transports would be better as warships, though...

I Use Anim8or www.anim8or.com (http://www.anim8or.com/) It's free, and I have succeded in making a few models that worked in Starfury. Although the models need to be converted from .obj or .3ds to .x in some 'other' program. I think I used conv3ds.exe the file converter that comes with the DirectX SDK.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I'll push Blender (http://blender.org) as always. I found it very powerful - plugins, scripting, ability to use external renderer, subsurfacing, boolean operations, some NURBS capabilities, a lot of tutorials (http://blender3d.org) and creative community (http://www.elysiun.com/). And native export to .X (in 2.36 at least). And free.
The only problem is interface. It's not a newbie friendly. But people who got accustomed with it told it's very comfortable to use.

edit: fixed links

I would praise this shipset again, but I fear It would be entering Double Figures the ammount of times I've done so. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

So I guess the next thing I need to do is come up with a back story. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I should have the set ready for download by tonight.

I don't know guys, I just absolutely love looking at this set. I love the Transport image I posted. The detail that came out is just breath taking IMHO.

All humility aside, I have to say, except for the race portrait, this is indeed my best work to date.

It was a big honor for me to allow David to name the set.

I love how it came out. Now I wish I could do this more often. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Hmmm (reads manual on how to properly hijack thread)...

anyways, I too use wings 3d. Great program and all, but it does have it's shortcomings. Will be checking out the other programs you guys supplied when I get back on a computer I can download things on.

Thanks!

Ok, sorry guys, but the set is going to be put off for a bit. I am going to work on it some more and most likely use the older ship images for another set.

Damn I hate being a tweak freak.

Any ways take a look at how they look rendered at size.

They are very detailed. The cruiser mini images are hard to tell apart though.

Most excellent shipset dude, they are like totally awesome man.

I'm amazed at how well the detail has survived the reduction process. I think you have found the perfect balance for detail vs the final render size. Even the mini's look great.

Ignore Fyron, the mini's are more than different to distinguish between the classes.

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

They really are hard to tell apart, especially on the combat map in SE4...

I'm sad to hear this. It's a really good shipset, one of the best, I'd say.
