I'm planning on using the Alternity Warships rules, which are free I might add, and arranging weekly battles. You would create a fleet of ships, with tech, money, and crew limits using those rules, and then duel it out in a random space sector. The limits I haven't decided on yet, but as for tech limits, I'm looking at a tech level 7. This would be organized on IRC, you need to be able to go the the #spaceempires channel on Freenode to play in this. I'm probably going to host this on openrpg as well, so you probably need to download that, and install it on your computer if you wish to watch or enter. If you want to join, or have any comments or anything about it, please post here.

I've decided on the money limit being 500M, and the tech limit being 6. There is no crew limit for the first Space Wars.

Heh, I had the same plan a while back. I abandoned it because I thought it would be too hard to GM. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Good luck, I may join you..
Happen to know of any openrpg stuff that helps with Warships?

6? I thought you had decided on 7?
The rules file (which was freely distributed by Wizards until they canned Alternity) that this will be based on can be acquired here:

Ack, sorry, meant to place 7. Must have hit the wrong button. I'm planning on starting it this saturday, so... There might be a way to adapt the rules to squares, or I might can turn openRPG and use hexes.

There she is, the Crimson Lance. Just falls in the 500M boundary, and it was a HELL and a half to balance it all out.

Cool. I think I'm going to have to postpone this, though, its going to take a while to get enough people http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif. If you would give transparent minuatures, that would help a lot.

That's two, but I'll have to design more ships. I only have a 270M cruiser at the moment.

Ah. You could reduce it to 250M, and have two http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Probably would just need to take out the FTL drive..
EDIT: and my new fleet would be better if I would stop thinking the limit was 50M. heh. Just designed an escort based around the Bug Cleaver ship. Came in at 12.665M. I'm sure you wouldn't mind GMing a fleet of 39 ships? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

You need a hyperdrive, or you'll have to be in another ship that has hyperdrive. I don't mind, as long as it doesn't take longer than 3-4 hours...

Its okay. Make sure to have it in excel format, OR print it to a file if you're using openoffice. I don't have open office, can't open them.
