Any Starfleet Command players out here? Recent news is that the devs will be opening up the source code. Hasn't happened yet; also might not happen. If it does, there should soon be a flood of mods to the game.

Thanks Slick. I had heard rumors of this for a while. What will open source be good for at this point? I never understood what they meant by Open Source. Does this mean that the code used to make the game will become free to all to use and modify as they wish? Hell if that is true, we could see SFC graphics just in time for SE VI. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

You got it. The source code in the hands of the players. In the SFC world, there are a bunch of different mindsets. There are those that think it should be exactly like Starfleet Battles, the game it was based on. There are all kinds of other viewpoints, which has been debated at length on those Boards. At the very least, there are still some annoying bugs that can be squashed by modders. They are not as civilized over there as you guys are so I haven't posted there in probably 3 years. Either way, the game should be enhanced and everyone will probably be able to find a mod that they like.

This is fascinating. I'm an old SFB fanatic, quite liked SFC...this could destroy my life as I know it if it really takes off...

Yeah there has been a fair share of moding for SFC2 and SFC2:OP...many SFB fanatics moding SFC to be more SFB like with ships, and fighters, and PF's and Carriers and such. With an open source code, we might acutally get to see things like PA panels and Webcasters and such...Yeah your right it could be bad...might take away from the SEV beta testings and such...
