Hi, Been a while http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

So, Question:
What happens when the tactical map is too small to contain all the ships ?
(Yes, we are there in the RTH 2 game)

A: It fills with equal number of defenders and attackers.
B: It fills up with defenders, leaving just the remaining spaces for the attacker.
C: Something random.
D: The game crash.

Anybody got a clue http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

I'd guess C and or D.

Isn't the tactical grid like 60 by 60? You guys have combats involving more than 3600 ships? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif

Go old school and pick champion ships to decide the combat for you. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

yes.

I've noticed that the ships overlap (with each other and warp points and planets). Fighters will be launched on top of other ships or in the nearst empty space (even if it's on the other side of the map).

I'm not sure if there other implications. i.e. if one of ships overlaps with an enemy ship are they considered ramming? Or if you shoot an overlaping enemy ship, will you damage your ship as well/instead?

You can tractor beam ships onto other ships; it dosen't count as a ram. They'll just fly away at the next opportunity.

You only take ram damage if you give a ram order.

I doubt they are considered ramming (at least before they can move). If you ram an enemy ship and both of them survive, they will happily coexist in the same square.

Eeek! Ok Primitive, please please stay away from my empire in RTH 2! I'm not near built up enough if you can fill the combat area fully http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif Remember, I'm 1/4 Norwegian, we've got to stick together http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Who said the big stack was mine http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Poor little me just popped a scout through a warphole and found a little more than I think I can handle (in one go).

Hmmm, maybe I can sacrifise a few ships on a test http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

Since its not my ships it must be up to the still anonymus owner. If he wants to post, then I have no objections.

I was wondering this myself as a battle like this is i coming in Last Man Standing.

Well if we can get the Langaneet to surrender I think we can avoid this. I know the side I'm on can put 3600 ships into one square all by themselves.

Makes ya pine for SE3's total lack of the one vehicle per square rule, eh? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I usually believe that there is never Overkill, there is only "just-enough-kill." But That is so far beyond Just-Enough-Kill! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif

This is certainly not overkill, as virtually everybody has fleets equally big. When your neighbours have three thousand baseships on your borders, you better have an equivalent fleet nearby. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif The game isn't called "Return to Hell 2" for nothing after all.

I gather the turns are run offline in this game? Even my modest NGC5 (a mere 4.5 mb unzipped, without the combat log, above 3 mb last turn) can no longer run on PBW.

Yup, PBW times out after 20 minutes and it takes nearly an hour to process the turns. I am trying to get Ruatha's PBW script set up and running so it can be automated.

So does this mean you can have 3600 plus ship battles? Has any one asked Malfador about this?

Yes you can. And prepare to see one in our Koth game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Why should you allow him to see 3,600 ships when you destroyed my own plans of doing so Geo? I barely had five hundred vessels when you surrendered in our own game: truly, I was expecting to reach a much higher figure, and you to provide the remaining vessels. Our biggest battle had, what, perhaps three hundred ships? A shame, truly. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

and to think my biggest battle didnīt had seventy ships... thatīs what i get for playing only against the AI... and the worse is: i lost that battle!

Laugh!

Just waiting until you have enough ships before sending them into battle?

Does each ship have a unique name?

Is stellar manipulation unavailable in that game?

After such a battle, do all non-Emotionless participants experience empire-wide unrest?

Yes.

My 2000+ ship yard bases do (so I know where they are).

Maybe. This particular battle was 4500 vs. 1, so no riots. I'm hoping 150 troops per planet plus temporal vacation centers will keep everyone happy.

When you warp into a sector with that many ships, don't you just wish you had the capability of warping back out! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
On the bright side, at least you have a little piece of intel. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Damn Spoo, don't you just hate naming all those base space yards? Is there any faster way of doing it than entering each one separately as it is constructed and re-naming it by hand? If there is, please tell me, since I'm still constructing mine...

Try naming the designs with the planet name before you put them in the queue. You end up with a lot of designs that are all the same just with different design names, but you don't have to rename the bases once they are built.

I thought about doing it this way about half way through, but decided to just keep doing it the long way. It really wasn't all that bad. Just a few minutes each turn.

That's madness. Utter frickin madness. I hope I NEVER play a game where I have to even think about having that many ships. Gawd.
