I just invited over a 100 people last month. I wonder when we will start having to pay for this service?

I understood that if you joined up pryor to going public, which I have, there would not be any charges.

That might be true Gandalph but I always like to remind myself about Credit Card Companies and the like.

They tell you one thing, and six months later they change everything thus invalidating what they told you in the first place.

So don't hold your breath on Google keeping its word.

What personal and/or payment info do they request to sign up?

Nothing you can't make up and nothing, respectively. However, there have been a number of vulnerabilities discovered with Gmail, and there's the nagging privacy issue of them keeping your mail forever. There was also an issue with SE4 save game files being blocked as well, though I haven't tested this in a while. This is in addition to their standard blocking of executables, (even zipped. To arrive unfiltered, executables must be in a rar, or a passworded zip. Renaming doesn't cut it) and some "unknown" files such as SE4's .gam files, which iirc, were also blocked when inside an unpassworded zip.

Actually, renaming does cut it...
I send stuff in ".zip2" format all the time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I was going to say, "Oh, Fyron, you haven't been sleeping again, and you're seeing blurry".

Then I checked my gmail and I somehow magically have 50 invites, too...

Anybody want one? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

There is also the Gmail drive option. If you want to use your Gmail account to store 5meg size files and have win R, then here ya go: http://www.aimlesswords.com/archives/20041007/gmail_drive/

I have noticed that Gmail is lacking in a lot of areas. I dislike the UI a lot and there is now way to quickly move something to JUNK, or have it classified as SPAM. I guess they are still working on it. (Duh)

I really like Gmail's UI... very clean and efficient. Not filled with crap like MSN, Yahoo, etc.

You can report an email as spam and it will be moved to the junk folder, as well as report the address to Gmail staff for possible addition to the spam filters... Just click on the Report Spam button.

I don't know what UI you're talking about. For me, all I have to do to classify something as spam is check the box next to the message (or use k/j to move up and down the list, and x to select, for the times when I don't feel like using the mouse). Then it's as simple as clicking the "Report Spam" button right at the top.

As for permanently deleting a non-spam message, that's a little harder. The main reason is probably because gmail is supposed to be centered on search, so you archive (y key) any messages that aren't current/important, then search for it later if you need it.

For example, in my account, Gmail says I have 1280 conversations when I go to the All Mail section. My inbox has 5 conversations (summer internship, work on a friend's campaign website, interview with microsoft employee, application to be RA at my university, and a recipie from my mom). Starred conversations (for me, this simply is an importance flag) has five conversations (two also in inbox).

Katchoo just invited me a few days ago and I have to admit GMail is far superior to anything. So far though I've decided to use it with Mozilla Thunderbird http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
