What does : " Cannot creat file c: \space empires iv gold\temp\TempCombatFile.cmb. " mean ?
It is occuring during executing the turn of an STM 1.9.0.9 game, in which I had combat?????????????

does this file exist? if it does, check the read only attribute, and did you check out your free HD space?

The combat file is most likely corrupted. Did your system have a crash or suffor a power failure recently?

AT: it is an Solitary game, so as I understand it there should be NO cmb. file (correct me if I'm wrong.)

There should be a cmb file, containg the replays of all the battles having happened in the turn (or all the battles you were involved in at any rate, but I think the file would include *all* the battles, including the ones between the AIs).
I do not have any .cmb file in my temporary repertory. Perhaps you could try clearing up that directory? (A backup would be in good order before that, as usual) Or perhaps you could try deleting the .cmb file in the savegames repertory, if the file in question is corrupted. Or you could try to rerun the turn, in case it is not a recurrent glitch.

Delete the combat file after backing it up. You could also send it to Aaron and ask him to look at it.

I wonder if your space empires/temp folder had gotten deleted, or somehow corrupted so that SE4 could not write to it. Reinstalling would fix that, so it's possible. No way to knokw for sure now though.

you may want to execute scandisk (windows 9x) or chkdsk (nt/2000/XP), to check files & directory integrity to avoid future problems

At least the problem is sovled. One for the infor book for sure. I would have liked to find out what caused it though, but like Geo said it might has just been that the temp file was deleted or something.

I'm fine for now, but if it happens again I have to find the reason for it, but for now..............playing time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

It could have been read only and therefore could not be changed by the game.
