It's time to start an new Quadrants of Conflict game.
The first game is still running, and will be forever I'm afraid http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

But nevertheless more than enought reason to start another game, offcourse ussing AT's STM 1.9.0.9 mod.

As in QoC1 I want to use an map as Trek as possible. (the map of Tnarg I used, will probably be used again)
The difference this time wil be that the game is based on Atrocities background story of his STM 1.9.0.9 mod

http://www.astmod.com/startrek/webpage/cleansingpage1.htm

So a lot of homeworlds will be destroyed and races will start somewhere else on mostly smaller planets.
Again I want a game heavy on Roleplay and as Trek as possible.

So if you are interested, let me know in this thread (game is not yet created at PBW, so don't start searching for it)

Races available and players sofar:

Major races:

Federation:
Klingon:
Romulan:
Ferengi:
Cardassian: Intimidator
Dominion: Randallw
Tholian:
Borg:
8472:
Orion:
Breen:

Minor Races :

Bajoran: (will use DS9 shipset, will actually be huge race because of surviving the cleansing)
Vulcan:
Gorn:
Hirogen:
Nausicaan:
Kazon:
Andorian:
Vaadwaur:

Aerosol has an first option on the federation or the Romulans.

All ideas are welcome, and maybe could Atrocities write some extra chapters for us http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Oh well, honestly: The current QoC game is already taking several hours to play per week. Im playing the newer STM Final game as well, this one is taking a lot of time, too, and its still early game. Now YET another Star Trek game ? Do you have too much time to spare or something ?
...
...
...
...
Ill take the Kazon, just like the in first QoC game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Two things, I would like the Klingons, and the next version of the mod is do out at the end of the month.

It should not effect saved games at all, but will have to be uploaded to PBW. So if you start before then, thats cool, but be advised that a new version is on the horizon. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I only posted yesterday to check if people we're interested.
And they are..............

So now I must start organize the rest.

- Turn duration : 60 hours (maybe 48 in the early game.)
- Map : Will be made by me (yes Tnarg I could use your help again, will contact you). As soon as the map is ready, everybody will get it. In QoC1 we already found out that their still is much to do for scouting even if you know the map completly.
- Planets : As in QoC1, different races will have different sizes of planets (according to background info)
I will put that on this forum this evening, and offcourse is open for discussion.
- Race-setup : Use your race : planet/Atmosphere type, Culture and Race-tech trait. Rest is at own choice, but keep it as Trek as possible.

And offcourse we will wait until Atrocities is ready with his latest version. (I heard something about the end of Februari)

Had just finished with reading the Cleansing story again.
And came up with the folowing :

Planets :

All races start with an medium sized planet.
Except :
- Bajoran: Large Planet (the cleansing didn't hit them, so are probably higher developed and have an higher population count and the Bajorans are allowed to use the Federation tech Trait)
- 8472: Large Planet (They are originated from an other dimension so the Cleansing didn't affected them)

Warppoints (Transwarp Conduits) :

The Conduits we're created by the Borg, So it's only logical for me that they created them in in their own favor. So I will change the map (just slightly) with the Borg homeworld possesing some long distance WP's.

hi!, it would be great for the turns to be 60 hours because it's gonna be extremely difficult for me with 48 hours turns, but if not possible don't worry.

Ragnarok-X
February 15th, 2005, 06:36 AM
I suggest 48 hours turns for the first 15-20 turns, when things become more difficult to handle and manage switch to 60 and later maybe even 72. In the QoC game im playing a minor race ranked #9 but it still takes long to play a turn. I dont how about big empires like the dominion and species 8472 but i guess they spend a lot of time.

Atrocities
February 15th, 2005, 06:38 AM
I suggest 12 hour turns for the first 50 then 48 hour turns for the next 100 turns, then 120 hour turns there after.

What Rag-X said is a good suggestion. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

What's the difference in game terms between a major race and a minor race? Perhaps this is something made clear in the mod, but I'm not fluent with the mod.

Randallw
February 15th, 2005, 09:57 AM
Major races have their own shipsets and tech trees. For example I will be the Dominion with all their great Dominion flavoured weapons. Meanwhile the poor little Nausicaans, who are in the grand scheme of things a minor race, have to make do with generic ships and technology. In Qconflict1 major races also got huge worlds, instead of us poor minor leaguers getting mere large worlds, but that's not happening this time.

Intimidator
February 15th, 2005, 10:42 AM
Well spoken Randallw, thanks.

But as in QoC1, all is still open for discussion. So maybe we will end up with some races have bigger planets than other.

BTW. came up with an new idea for the game. In Atīs story all the races fled their homeworlds and settled some places else. So it could be possible that some races founded two new colonies.

So I want to know if the people already asigned to the game, have problems with it when we will have 2 races of the following factions.......

Federation
Romulan
Klingon
Cardassian
Ferengi

But is only an idea, I still hope on an Vulcan and Andorian player. And even the Gorn and the Nausicaan are doing perfect in QoC1.

Nodachi
February 15th, 2005, 11:07 AM
That would be fine but, if, as in the first game, the minor races have fewer racial points than the major ones they are going to be at an extreme disadvantage.

Intimidator
February 15th, 2005, 11:47 AM
The reason I did that in the first game was to create an universe balanced as Star Trek as possible.

But now all is shot to pieces by the Cleansing so mostly all players have the same starting setup.
But because of the fact that(for example) the Federation was much larger it would be more likely that 2 small colonies survived instead of one.

BTW. I was not saying that those two races MUST become real close friends.

But it is still not more than an idea........

Ragnarok-X
February 15th, 2005, 12:15 PM
I like the idea of majors and minors being equally strength. This will finally open the possibilty for the kazon to take over the galaxy without being at an disatvantage when trying to. Was this grammatically right btw ?

We also need a decision concerning the Orions. They are a pirate race, will they be allowed to take pirate colony tech?

Hi all! Would like to aqdd some thoughts here too:

1) Atrocites, do you mean the mild, medium and heavy research trait or this other thing you embedded?
2) I can agree with the warroir tech ban
3) Why not providing each race with a deserted but optimal home planet from where they came, before the cleansing in a system to which they must at first find a way to enter, either by installing new warppoints, so we must develop stellar manipulation, or some other hindrances... Besides all other motivations the differetn races could have in this new sector, there could be a legend in each of the archives to this forgotten home systems...

- No Warrior tech trait
- Tech level is low

- Events will be medium / high, So you can use un-lucky / very un-lucky but be warned.

allow warp point openers/closers but put them later in the tech tree... (like, the first one in the same level as the ringworld tech)

Intimidator
February 19th, 2005, 10:11 AM
Agree, with that Makinus. But only that requires an MOD change, and don't wanna do that (BTW. it's AT's mod so I think it's up to him to do that.)

But I could make a rule not to use WP openers/closer after turn 100 or 120 or so??

Makinus
February 19th, 2005, 11:06 AM
better make a rule that you can only use warp openers/closers if you have X level in the Stellar Manipulation tech... this way you donīt need to mod the change but it still is dependent in the investment the player do in the SM field...

I donīt remember well, the tech fields level appear in the races statistics when you meet other race?

Intimidator

Only tech levels you have seen appear in the race window. If you have seen them use a Warp Opener, it would say Stellar Manipulation 3 (in the vanilla game), but they could have Stellar Manipulation 8, or could even have "borrowed" their Warp Opener from someone else.

Tnarg
February 20th, 2005, 03:46 AM
As far as the Warp Point Open/Closers and Weapons of Mass Destruction, I say that a forum or Galactic Council makes those decisions as we play(you must have contact to belong to the council and maybe at least a trade treaty). If you want to deploy a WMD and you belong to the council that determines rules that say their bad and genocidal, well hey, a vote is taken and your either get thrown out of the council or everyone automatically must declare war on you, or something to that effect. Kind of like when I was severly reprimanded for using biological weapons on the Tholians in QoC I. I think I could have had significant offensive backing from the Feds and Klingons had not the Tholians went crying to the council that was set up between the Cards, Feds, Klings, Ferengi and a few other minors. Made for an intense 15 or so turns.

If you are not a member of a council, you have no say on rules established by them, of course you can break them though but suffer the consequences. Or you can form your own with the races in your own little corner of the galaxy and begin negotiation relations and rules as we play.

Also with treaties, I think those should be closely watched as well. Trade Treaties should be the highest casual treaty, and higher alliances should be kept to a minimal unless the council says you really deserve the extra help and benefit of a stronger treaty. Unless your race is specifically a natural negotiator I think Political scores should be kept to no higher than 100% and maybe cap the trade benefit at 10 to 15%.

Intimidator
February 20th, 2005, 05:17 PM
Is an very nice idea Tnarg, and I agree on you on the treaty part (QoCI learned us that matter).

So I want to make an rule that ALL Strategic developments (WMD's, Warp openers/closers, Genesis devices, Ringworld/Sphereworld) are allowed. BUT some greater organisations can ban/forbid such items.

So with this in mind the use of Strategic devices would be an increase of roleplaying (As we want)

You will need to update your copy of SEIV to 1.91
You will need to download and install the IMAGE MOD (Planets, Combat, Facilities, Components, and Events packs.) They go into your Space Empires IV / Pictures folder. They will add more images and should only replace 1 file in each folder.)
You will need to download the Full version of the STM 1.9.0.0 and update to 1.9.0.9. www.astmod.com (http://www.astmod.com)

If you do not have your copy of SE IV by the time you expect, ask someone to make your race emp file up (with PW), that does have the full game and mod, email it to you, and then upload that.

You may not be able to play until you get your copy, but at least your empire will be uploaded and playable.

I don't know if the MOD works with the DEMO version of SEIV or not. If it does, you should be good to make up your EMP file.

If the Vaadwaur aren't taken, I'd be happy to give em a go! That's one of my favorite episodes in Voyager, actually, and I like the whole concept of rebuilding a civ from the ashes - though granted, everyone is doing that this time around with the "Cleansing" backstory http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I'm new to PBW, but I've played A LOT of SE4, also quite a bit of ASTMod. I'm like the poster above though, in that I don't have my game yet. I had to delete it and throw it away about a year ago cause it was interfering with my studies! Ordered a new copy yesterday though, and I'm pretty sure it'll be here wednesday/thursday. It's too bad it's not in stores around here, this game is an all-time classic...

Anyways, please let me know if it's not too late to join - when are you planning on starting the first turn? I think I'll be able to do my turns pretty consistently. I've still got a year and a half left of my college stoner lifestyle http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

- Turn duration : 60 hours (48 for the first 20 turns)
- Map : Is almost ready.
- Planets : All players will have Medium sized, except the Bajoran and the 8472 they will have large ones.
- Race-setup : Use your race : planet/Atmosphere type, Culture and Race-tech trait. Rest is at own choice, but keep it as Trek as possible.
- Only Espionage Intel is allowed, No sabotage
- All Stellar Manipulation is allowed (in contrast to QoC1, we're you can/may not open or close WP's)
(note: the Borg made tha Transwarp Conduits, so it could be possible for all races in the future.)
- Only 3 partnership or military alliances are allowed pro race. and only 5 Trade or Trade&researcg alliances pro race.
- No Warrior tech trait
- Tech level is low
- Tech cost is high
- No PBW Advanced Research trait. (sorry AT. , but goal of QoC games is realism not game speed.)
Nevertheless you can use the other research boosters, but you are paying for them yourself, So it will not unbalance races to much.
- No Pirate Colony tech is allowed (AT, could you explain to me what it does.)
- Pirate race is allowed
- Events will be medium / high, So you can use un-lucky / very un-lucky but be warned.
- 5000 racial

I still have doubts about the WP-openers and closers, So let me know what you ALL think of that.

But sorry AT, Events will be on...........

This will be it sofar, nothing is set yet but I think this will be our game for the most part.
If there are questions or remarks let me know.

Rules

- Turn duration : 60 hours (48 for the first 20 turns)

- 5000 racial

----Strategic Developments.
- All Stellar Manipulation is allowed.
- WMD's are allowed.
- Ring/sphere worlds are allowed.

I want to allow everything, just to keep all options open.
The game will be heavy on roleplay and tech cost will be high, so for the first 100/150 turns I don't expect any of these items to pop-up in the game.

- Victory conditions : None, I find playing an perfect Trek role more important than terminate all others.
Therefor eliminating an empire is not recommended (leave him a few planets to give him the possibility to come back in the game) and roleplay is a MUST !!!!!

FORUM or GALACTIC COUNCIL :

I will not rule this option, but will leave it open for ingame creation. There isn't an council, but if people (Tnarg) want one. Creat it yourself !!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

lmao... I actually sincerely doubt I can keep up the whole metaphor-speak all game long. it would add an interesting dimension to the roleplay though.

anyways, the reason for my post is that for us minor players, things are somewhat more confusing in terms of empire setup. the default 5000k Tamarian .emp file included with the game gives them an atmosphere of methane. unless they live off White Castle, i'm pretty sure the Tamarians breathe oxygen. my other issue is that we really don't know what kind of culture the Tamarians possess, nor do we know for certain even the name of their homeworld. (if we do and i just couldn't find it, by all means, tell me...)

so unless any of you have a huge problem with it, i'm going to assume the Tamarians are Oxygen-Rock Friendly Explorers (being as, according to startrek.com, they've tried unsuccessfully to contact Starfleet seven times over the 100 years prior to the events of "Darmok" i'm guessing they're a bit of an optimistic explorer-type race, somewhat similar to humans, in fact.)

Randallw

We had the same problem when we started Final Frontier, We started to post what atmosphere we breathed. Soon developed that everyone breathed the same. Pity Benzites aren't a race (or for that matter that there aren't benzine planets)

Just for the record, EVENTS are ON, so if someone were too take both of the unlucky events they would not be gaining a hidden and unfair advantage over the other players if say the events were actually off?

Secondly, will there be any "special" modification to the map that give one or two players a distinct advantage over the other players like more frequent ancient ruins or better valued planets? I am asking because this occured in a game a while back and it was viewed unfavorably by all except those who benefitted from the advantage of better valued planets and asteroids.

The playing field should be fair and equal to all with no exceptions. If Player 1's planet has a min/org/rad value of 120/100/110, then all players should have the same value or close to it. If one player has a homeworld value of 200/200/200 while the rest have 100/100/100 well then, what is fair about that? The same goes for asteroids.

Also the rules state that no one is to take the PBW ADVANCED RESEARCH TRAIT. I would hope that no one has taken this because it will become very evident rather rapidly.

Players must take their own culture - Is this correct? If so then players CANNOT use other cultures when setting up their empire files. I would hope everyone has used the correct culture as that too will show.

Finally you said no Warrior Trait. Believe me when I say if this is used by any player, the rest of us might as well call it a game.

Now I know that the HOST would never allow these violations of the rules to occur, but never the less they should be addressed before the game starts in order to make it CLEAR that they are rule violations and are detectable. Thanks for reading.

Thanks AT, for pointing this out for me.
Indeed I will check everybodies traits and race setup as much as possible, (an use of the PBW research trait will be an KICK OUT OF THE GAME http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif )

I'm still working on the map, but I try to get an map as good/bad for all players as possible, but with a bit of flavour of the 'cleansing story' (That is offcourse the purpose of this game). That can seem a bit unfair (only a little) but I hope people will see this as an challenge http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.
But I will look into the values again and make sure the differences are not more than 10.

Indeed AT, you must use your race-specific culture and trait. And you are right about the Warrior-tech -> DO NOT USE !!!!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

Unlucky events may be used but at own risk.

And at last : The Starting date !!!!!!!!!

Yes, the mod makes no changes that will effect our empire files. The only thing that will be effected are the breen as the size of the cloaking device was increased from 10kt to 20kt. However if the Breen do not have the cloaking tech researched yet, there will be no effecting them. So to answer your question, THEY ARE COMPATABLE. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The weapons are basically the same size as they are in the base game. Before the big revision, the weapons were various sizes and stuff and were horribly unbalanced. When I sat down to revamp the weapons, using Captain Kwoks XLS program, I tried to keep the weapon balanced and fun.

Remember that we are limited by the physics of Space Empires and that Star Trek is a visitor and therefore not a master of the Space Empires Universe. Captain Kwok devised a slick propulsion system and I did the weapon revamps. Later we had to make some major changes to armor and components, but those are all behind us now.

I would like to see weapons tied into engines and or a reactor of somekind, but that is simply not possible with SE IV.

I also considered making the weapon components much larger say 50kt each with twice the power but opted for the current system as it gave the play a lot more flexiblity in the design process.

To be honest I could have made the STM a lot like the AST mod, but I wanted to keep the two mods seperated. As the AST mods downloads began to fall off and more and more people were getting the two confused, I dropped the AST altogether.

The though had occured to UserX, Kwok, and myself to make version 2.0 of the STM a lot more like BOTF but plans for 2.0 are being geared more toward SE V than SE IV at this point.

SE V will allow for a far greater degree of modablity and it is my hope that we can achieve a balance of game play that we have not yet seen.

Pirate colony tech is the colonization technology for the pirate race. Without it they are a true pirate race and must capture colony ships in order to colonize planets. This is more for role playing than for praticle play. I would strongly suggest that any race that opts to play as a pirate race consider using the Pirate Colony Tech otherwise the game will not be much fun.

I will review the Pirate trait and make adjustments for the next version of the mod that will allow for faster research when it comes to capture technology and weapons. But in the mean time.... USE PIRATE COLONY TECH. Oops I see it is excluded by the rules this time out. Role play then. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif And good luck.

Hey just a quick question - I was running a test game as my Vaadwaur and found that my colony ships couldn't move at all until I discovered Warp Core II... ? Is this normal? It says when I create it that it has 1 move, but when it is built, it says zero. Which is weird, because I chose the +1 propulsion trait. If anything it should be 2 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif My scout ships move normally, 2 move plus 1 with trait = 3.

I made them correctly, with the propulsion mount warp core and 2 combat move items, 2 space move items.

I tried duplicating it with other races, and it's the same. So is this standard mod procedure? I only ask because I had a long game with the same version mod a couple of days ago as federation, and I don't remember them having this problem... so unless it's perfectly normal, a re-install might be in order so my empire doesn't fall behind!

Btw, Intimidator, I don't know if you checked the game boards but I'll have to make a new email that can receive a semi-large map file. My old hotmail is overcrowded as it is, so it probably got bounced. Don't wait to start on my account though, I'll just email you from the new addy and if you send it today or tomororow, it's all good.

Colony ships have to have four warp nacells.

Sol_Invictus
March 6th, 2005, 10:18 AM
Ahh, thanks Nodachi. That explains it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I must have forgotten that little fact!

So are we still starting today?

Well AT I can understand the mistake. You get into the habit of just putting two nacells on the ships and forget that the colonyship needs four. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

My habit with SEIV is always keep clicking on engines until an warning occurs and that I remove one, that way my ships always travel at top speed.

Intimidator
March 6th, 2005, 06:28 PM
But about the game, someone has some problems with his PC and SEIV version. An replacement for the first few turn will join soon and upload the emp-file.
So that's 'why we still wait on our START

To Atrocities

Our 1.9.0.9 emp-files will work with 1.9.1.2 ?? aren't they ??

So we could start this game in 1.9.1.2 right away ??
If so, I could ask someone from PBW to change the game to 1.9.1.2 ??

Am I right ?

Sol_Invictus
March 6th, 2005, 07:12 PM
I think starting with 1.9.1.2 is a good idea if the emp files are good to go. (Mostly because I already installed it for my test game, and it'll save me the trouble of going back to the old version)

And Atrocities, I did read it the first time; I'd just forgotten about it by the time I started my second game. Surely you don't expect people to read the instructions *every* time they start a new game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

PS: Did you get my msg Intimidator from my new email? tbbj79 at yahoo dot com . I still need the map file.

We will start with STM 1.9.1.2, it's already changed on PBW. Thanks again Geo.

As soon as I got some infromation on the Orions we will start.

I suggest that while almost all races can only use espionage intel, and the Dominion may or may not be able to use minor acts of sabotage with their Founders, I suggest some sabotage for 8472 as they have the technology to change their appearance to a human form - can't remember the name of that Voy episode but it included a massive base with a mock-up of SFC and the Academy, and "Boothby" was in command. Also, the Romulans should be able to use sabotage, as they have the Tal Shi'ar, don't they?

Or what you could alternatively do is create another Romulan race with the name Tal Shi'ar who can use sabotage, but who start out in a low-value area on a tiny/small planet, so they'll have to hire out their services ofr payment if they're ever going to be strong enough to fend for themselves.

I'd LOVE to play such a mercenary intel organization, but unfortunately I can't play on PBW.

luke_slovakian
March 8th, 2005, 12:55 AM
JA the dominion should be aloud to commit sabotage because they did that more often than fight:p

Strategia_In_Ultima
March 8th, 2005, 05:40 AM
The Dominion could have some sort of Intel act that allows them to take over ships, but it should be prohibitively expensive. They could place Founders on the ship to replace all crew members, but it would take looong so that's why it should be expensive.

And I stick with my Tal Shi'ar. In my own ST mod (with older versions of AT's shipsets, but then created from stock, not STM itself) the Intel centers are "mercenary Tal Shi'ar barracks" where the remnants of the Tal Shi'ar reside. My idea was that the intelligence agency became too powerful and tried to seize power in the Empire, but failed and subsequently disintegrated after the Cleansing War (yes, I had made my mod with the STM storyline in mind.).

But I still think that perhaps it's a good idea to make them an independent Empire.....?

Randallw
March 8th, 2005, 06:18 AM
As the Dominion I'm all for enhancing my Intelligence capabilities http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. However let's look at the sort of work they did. excuse me if i forget some.

1. Impersonated an ambassador so that DS9 nearly started a war with the Tzenkethi. Diplomatic intercept?
2. Impersonated a Romulan captain to lead the Tal'Shiar and Obsidian order into a trap. Information gathering?
3. It wasn't their plan, but they impersonated Chief O'Brian so that Sisko knew about a Federation rebellion. This wasn't really any sort of attack.

It would seem to be limited to actions that are minor but have a farreaching impact. They couldn't change crew rosters because the rest of the government would notice and fix it, but putting target ships off course, or even a whole fleet for a turn, seems in character. It has to be something that raises no questions. so obviously no mutinies as the loyal crew is going to suspect their captain wanting to change sides, and obviouslly they can't steal whole planets, although they can gather information on ship and planet cargo. Bombs also fit.

Sol_Invictus
March 8th, 2005, 07:58 AM
Well I don't know about intel, I'm kind of glad it's restricted in this game. Even for roleplaying reasons, with all the technology (not to mention empaths like Betazoids) being a terrorist should be really hard in the Star Trek universe http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I wouldn't mind if Romulans had some kind of Tal Shi'ar or if the Dominion had access to one or two more intel missions, but the problem then is balance. The empires bordering those two would then be at a disadvantage since they'd have to (well, not *have* to, but I certainly would) invest in a few more intel centers, at the expense of minerals and research. They'd get no real benefit from these extra intel centers, it would only be a necessary evil, since I imagine they'd put most of the extra points towards counter intelligence anyways.

Oh, and on a totally unrelated subject - I was playing around with some simulations today, since I remember the Vaadwaur used fighters in that Voyager episode. I was going to give up building them since the Federation for example gets Ablative Armor III that negates any damage less than 20, and the Small Photon Torpedo III has max damage of 16, but I noticed in the simulator that a shuttle group of 100 could easily take out a Dreadnought with the Ablative Armor III.

So I assume that damage from fighter groups is the damage the group as a *whole* does? Ie, one fighter does damage 16 max, but 10 fighters count as doing 160 dmg, hence the armor does not negate?

Edit: I don't see why this would be the case, since it's just 100 shots with 16 dmg, but for some reason that Dreadnought was quite easily destroyed, so there must be some kind of explanation for it... I just tried and it even works with only small phaser cannons. They still penetrate the armor. Oh well, good for the Vaadwaur then. At least fighters are not yet obsolete in the Alpha Quadrant http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

Nodachi
March 8th, 2005, 08:17 AM
Yes, the damage from a group of fighters (or sats) stacks.

Strategia_In_Ultima
March 8th, 2005, 08:50 AM
Fighters can be launched in massive numbers, so having to watch 235 fighters fire 3 small phasers and 1 small photon torpedo each is kinda irritating. When you fire a weapon, all weapons of that type in the fighter group will fire.

Sol_Invictus
March 8th, 2005, 09:54 AM
So do you guys use lots of fighters in STM games? They seem a good way for potentially under-teched and low-resource empires to pack some extra fire power since they don't cost any maintenance. I usually don't build too many of them, usually just a carrier or two with my main battle fleets, but I might make them a serious part of my strategy this time...

Btw, what's the deal with the Orion player? Looks like he dropped entirely from the PBW set-up... any ETA on him? I'd like to get this game going, I think it's gonna be a real challenge playing against human opponents and I'm looking forward to it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

This Star Trek game still needs 2 players before it starts.
- Federation
- Vaadwaur

The game is based on Atrocities background story for his STM 1.9.1.2
http://www.astmod.com/startrek/stm.htm

I will wait with starting the game until we got an Federation player.....

- Turn duration : 60 hours (48 for the first 20 turns)
- Map : Is ready, and will be sended to any new player.
- No Pirate Colony tech is allowed.
- Pirate race is allowed
- Events will be medium / high, So you can use un-lucky / very un-lucky but be warned.
- 5000 racial

It came up in Atrocities background story : " The Borg made those conduits to ensure some sort of space travel in the future, but only in a few hundred years after the end of the cleansing. "

And my idea was, that IF the Borg we're once able to make them, It could be possible for al races in the future.
That's why I allowed Warp openers/closers in this game.
