Post about how COOL the SE4 ships are here.

Only certain ones. The Xiati and Norak, for example, are cool looking ships, but the EEE I detest. Their ships don't look like real starships to me.

For me the EEE has a great merit : they are unique. I like them juste because it's really alien-looking
After all you don't know what is a real ship ; most shipset are too human-looking for me (Jraenar for example)

I quite like the EEE myself, and the EEEvil EEE is very nice as well. For one reason or another, I love the Cryslonite shipset; I love it so much it is one of the few shipsets currently installed on my computer (along with KanesS and Regency).

I agree. The Eee are great, im using them in a couple of games. Same goes for the Chrylonite, i mostly use them as the nemesis of the Eee when roleplaying. But i like them because both are very unique. The Xiati are great too, because they ships have very much style ! Maybe someone knows the Nloam, a very nice saucer shipset !

I simply like "human-looking" shipsets better. And it is for that reason that I don't like the EEE, EEEvil and Cryslonite, amongst others.

I like the totalyan's ships. They look cool. I dislike the Eee, they're evil http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Some of my favorite ship designs have been the Star Destroyer from Star Wars, the Cylon and Colonial ships from battle star Galactica seris(Original mostly). The Cylon fighters from the original seris were cool. The ships in the current seris aren't bad. The original Romulan "Bird of Prey" was cool. I liked Vaders tie fighterr but not the regular ones. The Maritian saucers from original War of the Worlds were kinda of cool. There are others.

I have decided to create a shipset with all the ships I like. So I am pulling from several sets. It is not coordinated but I like them. Who is to say that a empire of whatever would design starships with all the same basic design. Maybe they would be designed strickly on function. Oh well.

It is still developing. I hope that this allowed. Never thought about the copyright issues.

The Terran ships are appalling. Ugly, dull and difficult to distinguish from one another. Plus the runways on the carriers look more like stupid sticky-out things then runways unless you know what you're looking at.

The Eee are okay. They're interesting because they have a fundamentally different design from anything else, but also rather dull as they're simply a series of big blobs with a progressively larger number of smaller sattelites.

Got to love the Phong colony ship, though. O_o

Someone needs to make egg-like ships for a dinosaur race.

The Terran ships ARE ugly... I was referring to more scifi looking ships, like Jraenar, Xiati, Phong etc.

The alien ships do look cooler. I kinda wish the pop files were seperate from the ship files so you could mix one race with another set of ship files.

Why not just copy your favorite race image into your favorite shipset? Just rename it and you will be good to go.

The race pictures are only three files (four if you're changing the flag, too). One can change these on your own computer without affecting what others see in PBW.

I've done this myself with the Sharlon Kingdom (MF_Sharlon) when I use them to play my Mi-Go.

I've got ideas for a shipset, but no skills. What programs are used to make them? Are any free? I don't want to spend a fortune building one.

Also, I remember seeing a tutorial about shipset building. Is it on the SEIV gold disc or am I hallucinating?

MSpaint would be your minimum.

Most people will use 3D modellers and render their ships from there.
Its all bitmaps, so the only trick to making a shipset it to have an idea and some artistic vision.

PS:
Feel free to use the bigexplosion pic I posted in here:

The shipsets that I find myself using the most are the EDF, Pandoran (old and new), and the organic race that came with Devnull (can't remember name). I have nearlly 200 shipsets, most of which are races I would never play as but enjoy playing against for the variety.

As for making shipsets, Doga is a pretty good program to start with. You can download it for free off of their website.

You may be thinking of the Flora, or the Sonne, which are both from TDM. The latest Devnull borrowed them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I like Xiati, Phong, Praetorian (overall.. I think their Light Cruiser and Cruiser pics leave something to be desired)..

I like a lot of the shipsets, really. I -don't- like the Sergetti, Terran, and Xi'Chung shipsets..

With apologies to Renegade 13, the Jraenar are too Star Trekish for my taste.

Lol, so you've noticed my tendency to choose the Jraenar for my games?? I don't know what it is I like about them. Though I must say, their dreadnought isn't quite like I'd have made it. Battleship is my favorite, then battlecruiser, then light cruiser.

Here's my favorite stock shipsets, in descending order:

- Jraenar
- Xiati
- Cue Cappa (maybe)

Norak, Abbiddon or Phong for me. I like those metal giant warship looking shipsets! You can tell all 3 of these races design their ships with "we mean business" in mind! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I really am beginning to wonder how many times I'm going to have to apologize for the Terrans. I really don't know what went wrong there. But I'm working on updating a new Terran shipset which is a lot more in line with what I was going for originally. You can see the latest addition here:

Norak are SO OK. I mean, a Norak Battlecruiser looks more like a massively overpowered Dreadnought to me... they're just MADE to look like they're about ten times stronger than they actually are.

And I do not anymore choose the Jraenar becuase they're ST-ish. I've got ample ST shipsets (by - who else - AT) on my HD, I just like the Jraenar because their ships look... well, nice. In SEIII Demo, I often played the "Jraenar" set and named it the Federation.

NullAshton

I choose j'raenar because its the only dinosaur-like race... Aside from the organic race thingie, of course, but I don't like their ships too much.

I rarely play SEIV anymore lately. I've only used it a couple of times to see if the latest in Capship worked and if there were any bugs. I never ended my turn. In fact, for perhaps the first time in two or three WEEKS, I've played a game (a demo of a game called Spartan) today.

And btw, that "two or three weeks" could be more, but I forgot how much it was exactly.

Andres Lescano's SW Empire shipset is by far my favorite.

And without a doubt, my least favorite stock set is the Drushock.

My Most Disliked Stock Shipsets:

EEE
Drushocka
Cue Cappa
Cryslonite
Krill
Sergetti
Terran
Toltayan

As for the rest, some I can't really remember (like the Fazrah or the Piundon) and the rest are simply shipsets I like.

I like the Xi'Chung (i don't remember if how it's written), they are the closest thing to a shadow crab! at least for me.

Perhaps a stickied topic at the top of the board, written in ten mile high letters of flame would help?

Joke.

I kinda liek the Terran set, the body could have used more 'umph" in it, but otherwise it was okay.

My favorites, in order are:
1) Cryslonite (but I changed the color from pink to green).
2) Ukratal
3) XiChung
4) Phong
5) Jraenar

I usually avoid the dark greyish ships that are hard to see (on my lousy monitor), like the Xiati, Praetorian and Piundon.

My favorite non-standard races are:
1) Tylmai
2) Sethulkra
3) United Flora
4) Aquilaeian
5) Pyrochette

---PUBLIC SAFETY WARNING---

It is HIGHLY RISKY writing ANYTHING in flaming letters more than two miles high.

The [copyrighted information] clearly states an occurence where ten-mile-high illuminated letters crashed through the ground for half their length, eliminating many promising young Sirius Cybernetics Corporation employees. The letters now read, in the local dialect. "Go stick your head in a pig" and are only illuminated on special occasions.

How many ship sets do you guys have? I have 247 ship sets and am looking for more, the worst thing that I have found is trying to keep the races updated for SEIV, it is hard to find all my old races. I have probably another 100 that are too old to run on the curent ver. of SEIV. there a web site anywhere that has a list of all known races made?

Fyron

http://diesel2035.free.fr/racedir/index.htm

It has most of the sets. It might be missing the latest set or two... I am not sure whether Trooper is still around updating it or not.

Perhaps you might care to download my shipset archive and compare it to what you have, then we could combine them? Mine has 236 (not counting stock sets). I would definitely prefer not to add any duplicate sets to it though... It is located on the following bit torrent tracker:

http://kazharii.no-ip.com:6969

Note that you will need a BT client ( http://azurues.sourceforge.net/ ) to obtain such files...

I don't think Trooper will update his website anytime soon... the image directory was said to update somewhere in 2003 I believe. The latest addition to the site in general is the Mushuns Sporacy, which, I believe, was posted there around six months ago.
