Can you run it under a shell or emulator. Right click on the short cut ICON, got to properties and open the compatablity tab. See if you can run it under one of those options.

What is far more important is that I have Moo1 running on XP.
The pinnacle of all human artistic and technical endeavours.
The end-product of our entire civilization as of 1992.

Did you upgrade to WinXP or did the machine come with it installed?

create a dual-boot system with win98 and use win98 to play moo2 (and several other games)... i did it and now i donīt worry about xp and games...
BTW: take a look at the OCL Editor for Moo2 if you would like to mod the game.... i have it in my homepage (link in signature)...

Firstly - I apologize for not including more info with my original note. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif
Secondly - thnx for all the replies. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Thirdly - re-installing it did the trick (on my desktop system at least). I suspect that it wasn't able to find all its files. Du'oh! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif
Now to completely re-install WinXP et al on my laptop! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

When you do an install of WinXP be sure to check out the description of the file systems. Such as FAT32 (the older file system such as Win98 used, and is usually what a machine has when its upgraded to WinXP) versus the NTFS which is prefers for a boost in perfomance on large drives (such as machines which are formatted by WinXP get by default).
Thats why when someone says a game wont run on WinXP I ask if it was an upgrade or an install. I have an NTFS C:\ drive for windows OS and apps, and a FAT32 D:\ drive for things like games. No problems, and easier than running a dual os boot.

I've never gotten such a setup to work. Old games never ran any better from a FAT32 partition than from NTFS. What sort of games have you gotten to work solely by changing the type of formatting of the drive they are on? Perhaps this only makes a difference for certain games?
Of course, regardless of how you set up the second partition, you should always set up a second partition for data and leave Windows alone on C. This makes it far easier to reformat and reinstall Windows without losing any data. You can even move your profile settings (My Documents, Start Menu, Desktop, the whole shebang) to the D drive with TweakUI (free utility provided by Microsoft) and do a registry backup after you install your main programs. Then, after you reinstall Windows, all you need to do is use this registry backup and you will be ready to go in no time.
For older DOS games (older than MOO2), I find that DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/) works wonders.
