View Full Version : Which Set Do You Like Best

Atrocities
March 19th, 2005, 05:19 AM
Aikenian (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/aikenian/Aikenian.htm) I made the Aikenian for Aiken in thanks for all of his help with the STM.
Alliance (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/alliance/Alliance.htm) I wanted a good B5 Alliance set, but the set did not get a warm welcome so I changed it to be a non-B5 set.
Crugarian (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/crugarian/Crugarians.htm) Was one of my first contest sets that I let someone else name and come up with a back story for.
Diaspora (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/download.php?Number=336283) Was a set that I made for a friend that I thought I lost all of my models for.
Doppleganger (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/doppleganger/Doppleganger.htm) Was literally one of my first sets and is on the Gold CD.
EDF Set (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/edf/EDF.html) I wanted to make a nice Starblazer set just to see if I could do it. (Story of my life.)
Fyconian (http://www.astmod.com/nasy/nasy/Fyconian/Fyconian.htm) To honor Fyron for his outstanding work with the SEIV community and to say thanks for all the help.
Gamilon (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/gamilon/Gamilon.htm) I made this set in one night because I had nothing else to do and I wanted a set to match the EDF.
Huron (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/huron/Huron.htm) I don't recall the story behind this set, but I do know that I had planed to use them in my story Once Upone The Stars.
Illuminati (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/illuminati/Illuminati2.htm) A remake of one of my first sets. Thank you John B. for motivating me to make my own ships.
Kaelon (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/kaelon/Kaelon.htm) A joint effort with CNC.
Kiriath (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/kiriath/Kiriath.htm) I wanted to make an insect looking race. A model for the B5 Shadows.
Oxmal (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/oxmal/Oxmal.htm)Another joint effort with CNC.
Pandoran (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/pandoran/Pandoran.htm) Ah the mighty Pandoran's. Made exclusively for my story Once Upon The Stars (Remade last year.)
Pyrexia (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/pyrexia/Pyrexia.htm) Made because I was really bored one night.
Pyron (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/pyron/Pyron.htm) Started as a favor for some guy that never emailed me back. No not a Stargate set, just one that I was asked to make that I decided to finish and release. I really like the set, don't ask me why.
Remorhaz (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/remorhaz/Remorhaz.htm) I did this for Sachmo and his wonderful story. I hoped he liked the set.
Saturian (http://www.astmod.com/nasy/nasy/Saturian/Saturian.htm) I think my greatest work thus far. Well I hope so any ways. Named by David Gervais.
Star Jackals (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/sj/SJ.htm) A set I made to thank Suicide Junkie for his help.
Starwolf (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/starwolf/Starwolf.htm)My signature set. This is my favorate set by far. Made to honor the one game I love more than SE IV; Tribes.
Ticon (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/ticon/Ticon.htm) Again one of those really bored night sets.
UFA (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/ufa/UFA.htm) One of the first two sets I ever made and included on the Gold CD.
Zanarri: Made for Fyron, located on his site.
Zentraedi (http://www.galileo.spaceports.com/~william/nasy/Zentraedi/Zentraedi.htm) Made by request and was happy to accept the challenge and I hope everyone liked them.

I still have six more sets yet unpublished. Five for the Race to SE V tournament, and one yet to be named by Solop's.

I have also made 28 other sets for the Star Trek Mod, but they are not represented here.

My vote went for the Pandoran's. I love that set, it just...works.

Damn, if my counting is correct, you've made 58 sets over the years!! You truly are the shipset master.

All hail Atrocities!

I've always liked and still like the EDF. The Gamilon, Pandorans, Crugarians, and the Pyrexians aren't bad either. I think you can tell which kind of sets I like. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif A wet navy look with big gun turrets and lots of details.

I was just reflecting upon this in another post. Four and a half years and over 80 plus sets. (Counting all of my first attempts and remakes.)

I am amazed by this. I never really sat down and thought about it before. Man what a journey this has been. Almost five years and I still have SIX sets not yet released...... That are almost a year old. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Someone had better start winning that damned Race To SE V contest or I am going to loose it! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

My picks are the Starwolf, Saturians, Pandorians, Illuminatir, Pyron, and not yet released mystery sets 1 and 4.

And I like the Huron and the Saturians a lot as well.

Only the neostandard images for the Huron seem to load... I suspect it is a problem with capitalization, especially in the file extensions.

I quite like the Pyron, it being egyptian-esque. And the Saturians are great too.

But the Pandorans somehow steal it for me. Every ship is great, from the small vessels that look so cool to the Massive War Designs. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I voted for the Alliance. I really liked the EDF set too, they are very cool, but too hard to tell sizes by just looking at one image.

Its really hard for me to pick. Your sets all work so well. The colors are varied yet comfortable. The ships are logical expansions (such as small escort, slightly improved frigate, and so on), and things look like what they are (mines, satelites, drones, fighters, etc). So much variety yet so much logical design in all of them.

How about if I say that 90% of anything you do is my favorites and the only part which tends to turn me away, if at all, are some of the portraits?

Of course I could make it worse. Ive been thinking that Id like to ask for a set so I could design the race description around the way I play, then put a pic of me in the portrait. (hey before anyone groans... wouldnt you love to come across me in the game so you could... ummmm... respond to my presence?)

You mean like, a race for people to practice solar collapsing on?

AT, is it me or do you often create aggressive races about which little is known?

You know what they say, the less you enemy knows about you the more you know about your enemy.

So many wonderful ships and only one to pick? I've had some tough decisions in my life but I think this one has dwarfed them all. That said, I choose the Crugarians since I use a repainted version of those for the Spelunker Race in my Miners Guild Mod.

AT, just so you know, I think you are a wee bit cruel making us choose just one http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif lol (I'm feeling a wee bit cruel too, I should have said I like your 'Next' shipset the best.)

Muahahahahaha

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I voted the saturian; that set outdoes nearly all sets I have seen so far (including mine), with the sole exception of the Gryphons.

I have hopefully fixed all of the links so that all of the images will now show for all of the races. Huron, Illuminati, and UFA have also been fixed and now display their images.

Man I need to update these sets.

Had to go with the Saturian. It looks very regal: as if it were commissioned by Her Majesty.

EDF and Zentraedi tied for second IMHO. All gorgeous work.

Since a comment was made about portraits, there are some handy tools out there for folks that are not masters of character modelling. In a contest last year I won a limited edition version of FXRealm's Creature Creator. Essentially, it is like DoGA, but for critters rather than mecha. It features a slew of body parts and facial features that are morph-able. Pick your parts, tweak, export, and then apply any appropriate textures in the model editor like Metasequoia LE.

Some examples I whipped up a while back...

The down side is that the retail stand alone version cost 149 euro or 199 USD.

I have to go with the Crugarian ship set.

I'm the one who came up with the back-story for that race. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

But I also really like the Oxmal.

And a good back story it is too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif And thanks for posting. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif TAZ - Monolith also used that to make some interesting creatures. I have since been wondering what the name of the program was so thanks for posting it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif To bad it cost so much, but hey if your really into the game, $200.00 is nothing but an investment for hours of fun. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I like the little indie game contests, over the years I managed to win a fair amount of software and hardware, some of it well beyond my hobby budget.

Wow tough choices. I liked more than one but I voted Alliance.
