I downloaded a set of ships to use in my Space Empires IV Gold (version 0.6,I can't upgrade, I have the patch to 1.81 I believe but I don't know how to install it, help?)plus, I wanted to know how do I put the new set of ships in the game (if you want to know, it's one shark-themed, also, where I downloaded, there was designs for "huge troop" and others I never saw before o.0 whats that?)
Sorry for the n00bish questions, I've started to play the game 1 week ago, though I played SEIII, this one is much different, much better.

To use a new set place a folder titled with the races name in the pictures/races folder. When you start a game and choose your race the new race should be available (unless you it lacks the main picture in which case you receive an error). If playing a modded game sometimes you need to use the mods pictures/races folder. You sound like you have a neo-standard shipset. This is for modded games that use more than the standard set of ships, but it works fine with a normal game.

Rudy,

I highly recommend that you patch up to the latest version. Not only might it solve this problem, but it'll be a big improvement to gameplay as well.

The patch should come in the form of a .exe file. Just run it and tell it where your SE4 folder is. It will automagically update all necessary files.

Hope this helps.

You shall be Rudy B, and the other shall be Rudy H.

Also if loading an existing race (different from choosing the shipset and attributes for a new race), make sure the point setting is the same. it will be unable to load a race if it is made up of more points than the game allows. (you can change this for the game if you want)

Rudy B?
Rudy H?
I could do it!(use the modded ships)
I'm going to try to install the patch, also, do you know some cool sites where I can get more shipsets(sometimes it gets tiring always seeing the same ships over and over again)

Can I make my own shipsets?
I started drawing a cat-themed shipset, can I use it in the game or i need to do something to it first?

You can without problem. In fact I would be interested in a cat shipset

Adding ship sets:

In most cases the files you download will either be WinR or Zip files.

In most cases these files will contain ONE or more folders.

The One Folder zip or winr files:

1. Unzip
2. Pace folder (If named after the race) into your Space Empires IV /Pictures / Race folder.
3. Open the folder and look for:
a. 3 files whos ending extention ends with EMP. Copy these files and place into your Space Empires IV EMPIRES folder.
b. A single file named after the race. It will be a text file with a bunch of names in it. Copy paste that file into your Space Empires IV DsgnNames folder.
4. Start Space Empires IV
5. Under the Player Menu you will see the option to ADD EXSITING. Click on that and look for your newly added race.

The Multiple Fold zip winR files:

If you open a new ship set zip and it has the following folders, Pictures, Empires, and DsgnNames in it, simply copy and paste those files into your Space Empires IV directory. Click yes when asked to add folders. Follow sept 4 and 5 above.

Many races are not updated and will cause errors. the Sharks are one of them. They are a great set by Trooper and if you want to use them, simply update the AI files. I can do this however the set is not mine to mess with. I would replace the AI files with another sets, BUT keeping the Sharks_AI_General, Sharks_Speech, and shark.txt files.

Leonine Shipset (http://diesel2035.free.fr/hosted/leonine/index.htm) < I use it exclusively for my Aa'Turam Empire. (See also homepage>)
