Looking for a mod that impliments resource generating ships. You know, because planets are out of style now. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Remote miners? Or just ships that arbitrarily generate resources? In my opinion, those can be rather dangerous, as they allow an infinite number of ships to be maintained...

Pirates and Nomads mod, by SJ, I think.

Yes ships that generate resources are not a good idea for the reason that Fyron stated.

My mod Invasion! has ship components thats generaate intelligence and research points. You can find it by following the link in my signature.

I looked at P&N but I literally want no planets, except the starting one for a while and I didnt see any components that generated resources.
Size is my friend. Large components = game balance.

You could try out Adamant Mod (http://adamant.spaceempires.net/) as a nomad, build some research ships, and abandon your homeworld. You will need to make remote mining ships and mine the plethora of asteroids and planets for resources. The AI is not the best, but it should be fine for such a mode of play.

The STM is such a mod as well.

The items which generate resources in P&N are:
- Boarding parties + ShipYard
- Troops + Pilliaging
- Treaties

More if you are creative.

Thank you. Looks like the Adamant mod is my choice. And not just because minging asteroids doesn't decrease their value.

Thanks for all the input.

Actually, if you go into settings.txt in the data folder, you can set wether mining decreases asteriod value in any mod or stock.

Can you adjust how _much_ remote mining decreases value?

Sadly, no. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

In limited resource games, each planet has a maximum amount of resources that can be mined instead of a percent value. Every point of resource you mine decreases this value by one point. This applies to facilities as well (Mineral Miners, for example). Solar resource generation and the arbitrary point generation abilities added in 1.91 are exempt, however.

I didn't think that it was possible to have ship components could generate intel and research points...

That was added in the last patch.
History.txt said:
Version 1.90:
5. Added - "Generate Points" abilities which will generate points for an empire each turn. These abilities are independent of a planet and will generate an unlimited number of points. These abilities can be used on a facility, component, ship, or anything else.

i don't know if it's possible, but can storms generates resources?, if it's possible (i'll have to check out), i think it will be funny, hehe, i'll include that if possible on my almost ready mod.

I don't think you can "own" storms, so I doubt that would work.

true, you can't own storms but maybe you could mine them as planets.

Wow this thread grew. Anyway I chose adamant mod because I assumed it was balanced for allowing infinite asteroid minging(makes sense if its in the data file). Also the INSANE amount of technology avaiible. I have to say the mining is kind of fun but I had hoped to create a mobile if very weak empiire.

Is there a mod allowing me to build mobile facities in space? As very large components in a specialty chasis?

I might be asking alot http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

"Facilities" exist only on planets. You can get many facility affects on components (most of the possibilities are present in Adamant), but nothing related to population applies.

A nomadic empire can be quite mobile. You can certainly move your miners along with you. The Adamant version of nomads have research and intelligence components for their ships, so they only need a planet to maintain contact with other races.
