I've used DOGA in the past to make shipsets, but now it looks like SEV will have a completley new 3-d interface that DOGA will not support. What software will we need to make new shipsets? Is this something that the average person can pick up, or will you have to be a graphic artist in order to have any hope of attempting?

For those of you that may have not noticed, now is a good time to tell you that there is a SE5 forum where questions such as this shoud be posted.

Sorry about that. Hey mods, can you flip this post over to the SEV area?

Doga works fine, however it is not very efficent. You can export your doga models to X format which the game does use, but the polygon count is too high for the game to be able to use them well. Problem two is mapping a texture onto your models.
I think Zircher can help with the polygon thing, but you would need a good 3d modeling program to do much with the textures.
You would have to convert the X formated model into 3ds, make the changes and map the texture, then export it, then convert back to x format for the game.
My understanding is that the Modeler used for SE V was in fact 3ds max. (Don't quote me though)
