Hope nobody minds that I'm posting this here.
Anyway, Stars! is crashing on run. The error is 'X#=0D, CS=00C7 IP=00002725. The NTVDM CPU has encountered an unhandled exception. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.'
This is especially strange because our CPU is AMD.
The two options are close and ignore. If I choose ignore it just pops up again.
Thanks.

stars is NOT a dos game. it was win95 I think, runs fine here except sometimes I get graphic glitches.
Anyways, the version is important, was kinda bugger earlier on.

Stars was both a DOS game then remade into a Win95 game. It was, is still widely popular with one of the best tutorial systems for any game that I have seen in years.
I wish I would have discovered it back in 98, but alas I did not discover the game until after I had SEIV. No comp.

You may want to try with compatibility mode i don't know where it is on XP(i use win 2000) but i know it exists, it seems to be some kind of bug. Maybe because you're using XP, but who knows...

Same place it is on Win2k after you enable support of the slayer.dll to enable compatibility modes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
I second the recommendation of DosBox.

Compatability mode doesn't help, DosBox just says it needs windows.
Why would a program work one day and not the next?
I did register a .dll to get a homeworld modding tool working...Anyone know how to unregister a .dll?

It also works on our Win98 bootup, which means the problem probably is with XP.

NTVDM is apparently the "NT Virtual DOS Machine" or the 16bit (DOS) running part of Windows NT/XP. Random fact of the day No.7634
For a solution, has anyone ever got the system restore feature on windows to work? As in you actually have a problem and try to go back to a 'stored' version and it works? Not in a test but with an actual problem. I never have but I could just be unlucky.
If anyone has ever got it to work then give it a try. Failing that wipe anything you've installed recently, windows re-install might do it or try all the options in compatability mode.

Shh!!!!! Keep your voice down. If you don't keep quiet XP may notice that Stars! is working again and break it just to spite you.

By any chance, is Stars! abandonware yet?
