This is just an idea for discussion purposes. Not saying I am planning on doing it.
Stock SEIV
Huge quadrant ~255 systems, using a modified quadrant with no dead systems.
20 players
High tech cost
No stellar manip, religious tech or intel.
100 ship limit
100 units in space limit
Can you defend an empire of 200+ planets with 100 ships? Assuming you can, is there anyway you'd have enough left over to attack your neigbors?
I call it the "last" PBW game because it could quite possibly never end. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Thoughts?

It would never end. Few would get through the weapons platforms. Some empires might die because they didn't build enough Cargo Facilities or got attacked real early. But I just don't see a 100 ships getting through 60-70 weapons platforms on a big planet. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Injured.gif

yeah they would. some people are pulling it off with 5 ships in Furball-6, 50 would definitly be enough to kill a planet.
100 would do it easily, especially if they brought drones.
of course, thats only going to kill one planet at a time. and someone might recolonize faster than a new invasion fleet could be built.
and alliances could kill people quicker. still, this will be a very long game.

I think planets can only target 10 ships, so you can probably blow them up - just with a high rate of attrition.
I forget, don't WPs contribute to the "in space" unit limit?

No. Units that are in cargo never count towards the limit. That means carriers with full loads of fighters, mines waiting for a threat to show up before being deployed, drones still in a carrier, etc. don't count either. I think this would make fighters actually viable in the late game, because a heavy carrier with a full load of fighters is more powerful per ship than anything else. Sure, it costs a ridiculous amount of resources to build all the fighters to go in it, but with such large empires and such a low ship limit that's not what matters in the late game.
