View Full Version : When AI cloaks... does it work?

I am playing a game where the Darloks have ships with stealth armor. I can see all their ships, but several have an orange, dash-lined circle around them (on main display) - does this mean they are cloaking? And if so, how why I see them??

Yep
>And if so, how why I see them??
I can see two options:
- Have you Recon Satellites with some kind of sensor (Gravitic, Optical, Temporal, etc), or maybe a ship with one of those sensors?
- Have you a Partnership treaty with the Darloks?

No, no sensors yet. And we are at war. It must be a bug...

I'm using the TDM modpack and cloaking seems to work. The EEE have researched it and were using it pretty effectively until I got sensor ships/sats in sysetm.

Jason2 - are you running any other Mods other than TDM Mod Pack?

While reading another thread I got an idea: maybe you're seeing a mixed fleet? E.g., some ships in the fleet have stealth armor & are therefore cloaked, but some don't have stealth armor and are therefore not cloaked?
ISTR there's an "omnipresent" or "omniscient" setting that allows you to see all systems, and that sometimes that setting will allow you to see cloaked ships...

No other mod. Also, just one ship.
However, perhaps it was leaving cloaking? The reason I ask is that I have the 3 warp points that lead into my 14 systems, guarded by about 30 ships at each. Yet 3 Darlok ships appeared all of a sudden in one of my central systems... I assume that cloaked ships can warp into a guarded warp point and avoid the defenders?
If so, it is working. If not, I have no idea (lol)... All of the "obvious" things I've thought through... I'm not sure what is going on.

IF you have not sensors, the answer is yes.
I have noted that sometimes, a cloaked group of ships, after an attack against one of your planets, change the cloak off during the end of the turn.

they can get past your ships but mines will still hurt them, i found this out the hard way. I built a fleet with only cloak ships and one construction ship to head into enemy territory and capture enemy ships and techs...they all (4 ships) were destroyed going through the second warp point http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif

I suspect the cloaks were deactivated because the ships ran out of supplies while attacking.
Since the cloak uses up supplies, it shuts down when you run out.
On the next turn their fleet may share some supplies and they'll be able to recloak.

In the data files, it shows the cloaking device using 100 supplies. But you don't burn any extra supplies either activating the device or moving around. However, you automatically de-cloak when you run out of supplies and can't turn it on without supplies.
Is that line in the file just so you can't cloak when you run out of supplies? Or, do we think Malfador probably intended for them to eat up some extra supplies when it is either turned on or you move with it turned on?
