Well, some of the other stuff on sale does look interesting, but I could use a little word of mouth to make a descision. I like turn based strategy games that have simple rules that can be used to form the building blocks of complex strategies, like Advance Wars for Game Boy Advance, each unit moves a certain way, they each effect the other units differently, and you have a match that can be quick and dirty or long and drawn out. Combat is pretty simple too, one unit attacks the other, the other counter attacks, depending on the units damage is figured out and yuo move the next unit.(battalion head to head is supposed to be a flash version of the game butI haven't tried it as most flash games run like crap over my 56k: Battalion head2head (http://www.urbansquall.com/mambo/) )

I have yet to find a strategy game that is as fun and fast paced as AW with online multiplayer, you think any of those on sale would fit the bill(or know of any others elsewhere)? I've been looking at The War Engine, Lock and Load, and(even though it is RTS) Remote Assault. Also What is M.U.L.E. and is Space HoRSE which is based on the afore mentioned "M.U.L.E." any good?

Not a commercial game (actually open source), but I'd recommend Battle for Wesnoth:

I'd look at the demos.

Lock 'n' Load is a non-computer board game, but a neat one. Similar in genre to Squad Leader, but nowhere near as complex as Advanced Squad Leader.

I have rather enjoyed playing The War Engine, and would recommend trying the demo. Could be close to what you are looking for, though PBEM rather than "online multiplayer".

The Combat Command games are also a neat WW2 system that isn't too complex (I guess it's more wargame-ly than The War Engine, though, so it might seem more complex if you're not used to wargames - again, try the demo), especially if you're not an armor grognard. Again, PBEM rather than "online multiplayer".

M.U.L.E. is a classic game from the original Electronic Arts (back when it was a small and very creative game development company) for the Atari 800 back in the mid-1980's, which was about economics on a frontier space colony. Space Horse is a tribute to and extension of that concept and style.

You might also peruse the demos of:

People's Tactics it a pretty cool game, for a freebie. It has a lot of unique concepts.

Oooh yeah, Wesnoth. That has been eating my evenings and weekends ravenously for the last few weeks.

They have an active and intelligent modding community as well. www.wesnoth.org (http://www.wesnoth.org)

Where can you get the demo to Empire Deluxe Enhanced Edition? I've had every version of the game that's been released. I wasn't even aware the White Wolf was still around. OR is someone else producing Empire Deluxe these days?
It's been a long time since I've played ED and that would be a good game with quick results in a small game.

For Empire Deluxe Enhanced Edition see Killer Bee software at http://www.killerbeesoftware.com/kbsgames/edee/
I don't know how they might or might not be related to previous producers of Empire games.

Oh, and as for Remote Assault, I think it is a very well done combined-arms real-time tactical game. I find the AI quite difficult to beat, perhaps largely because I haven't mastered the tactics, and it seems to use them pretty well. In theory, I should play it a lot more than I do - it was only really the setting which didn't grab me.

Hey that's right! I forgot I had Empire Delux Masters Edition, it was 2.50 at a library sale I gotta dig that one up. That's a good game, takes a little while to get through a game and the graphics are a little oldish, but yes that is the sort that I'm lookig for. I may well get the updated version of it.

As for the sale I tried and liked the demos of Remote Assault and TWE, and they are now sitting on my desk http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. Horse I tried, but I already have Interstellar trader to satisfy my economy gaming needs.

I'll try out the people's tactics and the others mentioned, thanks for the recomendations.

Thanks PvK, I downloaded the demo and all I can say is "My God! The infantry and bombers are still the same icons from the original game". White Wolf produced the 2nd version of Empire Deluxe. I forget the orginial producers of the game. It was just called "Empires" a DOS based game that was ruined by that virus known as Windows. It was a good game back them and still looks good, although it's much more complex now.
