It'll be amusing to see 180,000,000 people jump at once...

Someone whose post count just pushed past 15,000 TODAY...

Hey, how do they know that changing the Earth's orbit in this manner would only have beneficial effects like stopping global warming? What if too many people jump and the earth falls into the sun or flies off into deep space? I'm deeply concerned that these people may not have thought this through very well!

This absurd idea is discreditted quite eloquently here (real page unavailable, so this is a google cache) (http://216.239.59.104/search?sourceid=navclient-menuext&q=cache:http%3A//ned.ucam.org/~sdh31/misc/geocide/moving.html)
Anyone who hasn't read the geocide pages should read them all. Now.

I'm just trying to remember where I heard something like this recently, and then I remembered it's a Futurama episode where all the Robots burp at once to shift the earth so as to reduce global warming.

well, it's obviously their intention to destroy the earth - I'm sure the CIA is quietly dealing with them right now...

Geocide? Are you threatening the benevolent ruler of the PBW Empire?

There will be no earthquakes. This method of moving the earth is perfectly safe.
Trust me, I'm a mad scientist. I know these things.
