While playing last night I was Alt+tabbing to a spreadsheet I was working on. I got an alert about a battle that I was not expecting. The Xiati had 25 ships orbiting my homeworld, but we had been brotherly!

He attacked me, wiped out my homeworld, destroyed my 3 space stations and some older ships. I was thinking crap crap, crappity crap! I had no real defence of my entire home system, he'll devastate me!

So when the AI player turns were done, I clicked on my homeworld and.... no damage !!??!! His ships were there, my homeworld was fine and we were still Brotherly.

What????? I've never seen this before....

So it attacked and destroyed your world in its turn, then finished the turn and suddenly it was back to before http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif. Sounds like a major glitch.

Ya, his turn he destroyed my homeworld. Then when I had control I couldn't see any declaration of war, and my system was just fine and we were still brotherly.

Did it occur in simultaneous or turn-based mode?

Turnbased. I had tabbed out to work on the spreadsheet (turns take way too long for someone with ADD on a PIII500 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif).

I am wondering if the combat you saw was actually one between two other races. There have been some bugs like that occasionally where you get a view of another races empire. If you still have the turn saved you should open up all the AI players and see if any of them just lost a planet.

When I couldn't figure out what had just happened, I clicked on every system that I was in and looked for a large fleet somewhere over a burnt out homeworld and couldn't find one.

Good idea on the save game, I'll see if there is one. Its possible thats what I saw since I let the battle go automatically. But I could have sworn it was my homeworld. I'll check later tonight if I can.

Oh I re-read your message. So you can occassionaly see a battle that you were not meant to see?

There was a bug at one point in simultaneous games when running the turn replay where you would get a view of another players empire sometimes. Not so much the combats, but you could basically look at all his systems and ships, just as if you had opened up into his turn.

What version of the game are you using. I remember this happening to me once, when I first started playing, before I downloaded the patch. When it happened to me I did as Geoschmo suggested, and learned that for some reason the game had produced a couple empires with the same shipsets. This seemed to confuse the game some how and showed me combats that had nothing to do with me, and on occasion it would cause the computer to controll my ships.

Your intelligence agents caught the AI running a simulation checking the feasability of attacking your homeworld?

I wonder if the AI runs simulations?

"Interesting. The only way to win, is not to play"

I watched (parts) of that movie, once.
