In the data folder, the settings file states :
Maximum mines per player per sector := 100

I assumed that 'sector' means solar system,
yet I have over 100 mines.

What is wrong?

A sector is one of the grid squares in a solar system. This threw me for kind of a loop before too. So a solar system consists of many sectors, evenly though that seems intuitively wrong. I think of sector as being something big, so their use of it was sort of a surprise to me. Anyhow that just means you can have more than 100 mines deployed at any given location in a system, like a warp point or planet.

wow, when did they add that setting? I remember the good old days of hundreds of mines... man, anybody can sweep a measly 100 mines with a mere 20 sweeper components at a maximum of about 5 ships. time to rely more on sats and starbases.

Just change the settings.txt to be 10,000 mines and 10,000 ships. Solves all your limit woes as long as you have a decent CPU http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

man, what kills my CPU are blocade fleets. about (8 movement points)*(10 ships)=(80 combat sequences) to be resolved each turn, for each blocaded world, variable by the size of the fleet and the number of MPs, and of course the MPs of any hostile ships that try to run the blocade.

man, I have had turns take over 30 minutes to run. it would be nice if this was trimmed down so that IF (no damage done on either side) AND (units in the sector does not change) THEN (subsequent combats dont do any damage to either side)
