... since the SE5 beta started, but it's driving me nuts...
Do any of the beta testers have Linux available for testing SE5 under Wine? I'm not asking for status reports; I'm just asking if any testing is being done http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I don't think anyone is actively testing the game with Linux to the best of my knowledge.

Although I think at least one or two testers were said to have linux.

Damn. Looks like I might as well delete Linux now just to prepare http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Just create a little windows partition. No need to abandon ship! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Well the only Windows I have right now is a set of backup CD's which will erase the entire hard drive anyway... so why bother deleting Linux and putting it back on? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

I thought no one used Linux any more.

Don't worry, Microsoft's new RG version is out. I've attached a demo copy! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

LOL, I've seen that one before... only it was a flash on a site, not a download...

Do you think it would be OK to say what version of DirectX SE5 will be using? Because if it's 9, then (surprisingly enough) it might actually work better than older versions (since Starfury didn't work, but now it seems that DX9 will be supported in Wine soon)...

There's been no specific directX or better version specified. I'd say any that work with Starfury probably work with SE:V.

Well the thing is that SF apparently doesn't like Wine's implementation of DX8 (or 7 or whatever version it uses), but there's work being done on an implementation of 9, so I was hoping SE5 would be using DX9 instead of the earlier version that SF was...
Trust me, I WILL switch back to windows if I really have to... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

I'll bet if you set your virus protection right, it would identify Windows as the virus it really is! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Think again. DistroWatch.com (http://distrowatch.com/), Linux Counter (http://counter.li.org/).

Well, I've got some encouraging news from Malfador:

Starfury requires DirectX 7 and SE5 requires DirectX 8. Let's hope it works!

If I'm not mistaken, DX8 is already fairly well supported in Wine; the reason Starfury doesn't work must be because it uses DX7.

Oh, and it looks like I'm not the ONLY person who calls it "SE5" instead of "SEV" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

We should call it SE 101. Really!

Binary huh? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
Though it also sounds like a tutorial or something...
Maybe we should call it SE ||||| (counting in unary) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
