View Full Version : My one major gripe!

A big fat tumbs down for this extremely annoying message:

"During a simultaneous movement game, the game is saved automatically when you end your turn."

Let me count the ways I hate this message. One onethousand, Two onethousand, Three onethousand *why you little!* *argh* and so on and so forth!

Why oh why can I not save my pbem game turn before end turn? Say I do half my turn then have to or want to do something else. I have to leave my Space Empires IV up and running because I can't save! And if I do end turn and remember I forgot to this or that and reload the turn I have to the whole thing over from scratch! Preposterous!

Pretty please with sugar on top, fix this!

While on the subject of pbem sim games:

Movement log doesn't work. Get's a message to the effect of: "The movement log replay file is not valid for the current game date".

Retrofit doesn't always work. I hate sifting through that maddeningly unsorted shiplist and giving retrofit orders to 50+ ships of 5+ different designs just to find out next turn I have to do it all over because the orders didn't take.

There! I've said it! Now I'm going to bed leaving the computer on over night because I can't save my turn. Again. For the umptenth time. Fortunately it's very silent since I replaced all the fans in it.

Edit:

Oh almost forgot. The "AI should not make changes to the empire during a Simultaneous Game" toggle under ministers doesn't work. The most dangerous thing you can do in a pbem game is miss a turn since the AI will do it for you. And it always makes more damage then a three pronged attack by overwhelming enemy battlefleets at three different locations.

There! Now I'll shut up and go to bed. Really, I mean it. *drops dead on bed*

As a fellow PBEM player I can feel your pain. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Agree comepletely with you there Jubala, one of the things I *really* missed from Stars! is the ability to go back and make a small change to your orders after doing your main orders.

your movement log probably doesn't work because your host hasn't sent you all the files. If he only sends you the *.gam file he is messing up. All the *.txt files that the game generates are needed.

Have you tried placing the game files in the standard savegame directory. I know several pbem games have set up custom directories. This might solve the problem if that is the problem.

All the *.txt files are there. The movement log doesn't work for anyone in the game including the host.

The're in the standard savegame directory so that's not the problem.

Funny thing happened to me on the way to the forum.

In my most recent game, testing some changes that I made, I invaded a Darlok planet. Worked out quite well with my 228 Marines invading a planet with 200M population. The next turn I looked at my prize and was astonished to find out that the Darlok population was in fact entirely composed of Sergetti. THIS IS NOT A MISTAKE. The Darlok must have invaded the planet. In this game the Darlok are 2nd and the Sergetti are 3rd or 4th (not dead). This never happened before 1.30. Also I was involved in a massive carrier with the Darlok. Massive because it has never happened before. Six of my carriers with several other large ships against 5 Darlock carriers with 5 heavy cruisers. Best battle ever.

This game is getting better!

I don't think the Darlock invaded the planet! They are masters of intelligence operations so it was probable the effect of a puppet political party intelligence action.

Agreed, as I have some insight as to how the Darlok build and research http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon12.gif unless someone has switched out the AI files, they should not build/research troops until the very end b/c of the way the AI mishandles troop ships. My money goes to the puppet theory, since the Darlok are intended to rely on intel projects instead of brute force. But I am glad you are enjoying them http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
