OK, I'm hosting this game "Ecliptic Plane" using the Eclipse Mod at PBW, and the last turn wouldn't prcess. So I went and downloaded the latest .plr files and tried to process it myself... well lo and behold, I get a strategic combat window! I suspect I may just have forgot to set an option such as "players on different computers", but if I did, doesn't that mean I'd have to start the game over? Or is there anything I can do to rectify the situation? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Yeah, restart. It sounds like you changed the "Simultaneous Games Show Strategic Combat" line in settings.txt. If you had forgot to set the game up as players on different computers you wouldn't have gotten as far as turn 8.

I didn't touch the settings.txt... Kevin??? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
But thanks for letting me know what it is... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
edit: wait, I fixed it just by fixing the settings.txt locally and re-running the turn on my machine! I guess that particular field isn't checked for savegame compatibility... We're back in business, if you could just toggle that field for me on the PBW server, Geo? Thanks! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Ok, mod is fixed on the server. You should make sure that future versions of the mod have that setting turned off.

I am SO sorry. I changed that setting a long time ago and forgot to set it back. I should have known it was my fault somehow. I'll make sure to fix up the mod download files as soon as I have time. So very sorry. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/fear.gif

Het Ed, the nag e-mails are unecesary. Your sending them while I'm either asleep or at work. So there is no way for me to hurry up and send my turn in.
I work nights, and sleep in the middle of the day. I always check my e-mail when I get home in the morning, and when I get up in the evening.
I know your wanting to get turns in, and I'm sorry that my hours are off, but please cut a little slack.

If you are refering to PBW emails like "you are one of the last players to upload, hurry up" or "you are the last player" those aren't from him exactly. They are a built in part of PBW that just happens to use the email address of the game manager.

Its incentive to get your turns in early, eh? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I can't get them in any earlier than when I check my mail. That was the reason behind my complaint.

Is that implying that you only use the "reply to email with turn attached" style of uploading, or that you always check your email first, before visiting the PBW site, and don't get a chance to check too often?

I have a program that monitors all of my email addresses and lets me know when I have mail. The problem arises from my odd hours. I work nights and sleep whenever I have a chance during the day. So on any given day, I usually log onto the internet when I get home in the morning, check my mail, do whatever, then go to bed most of the time. I check when I get up as well, which is usually mid-afternoon, and then do various things that need to be done. I'm guessing that most people get their turns uploaded in the afternoon or evening since that is when the new turn is usually ready.
Therefore I get the turn notification in the morning when I get home, along with maybe 1 or 2 nag mails.

They can be disabled by the game owner however. All that is configurable. You can have as many as one nag every hour to as few as no nags at all.

Thanks.
I wasn't trying to cause any grief over it.
