I’ve been playing around with a mod that has changed the speed of ships and torpedoes to the same value (six movement). I noted that in the combat simulator, the torps seemed to out-distanced the ships, and am pretty sure that in the combat setting the speed of ships is cut in half.

Need a pulse check:

So, if I want ships and torpedoes to move the same speed in combat, I would need either the ships to have a movement value double that of the movement value of the torpedoes, or cut the torpedo speed to half that of the ships. (and if I recall correctly, the computer rounds up for ship speeds)

Yup. Also note, however, that entering a damage rating on the 21th range for the torp will mean that it will track its target indefinitely, no matter the minimum range.

Thanks! I’ll use that, too! But what damage will it do at those VERY long ranges beyond 21.. presumably the same as the value for 21, right?

You could also add bonus combat movement abilities to bring the ships' combat speeds up to par.

Some missile tricks. (http://www.spaceempires.net/home/ftopict-544.html)
