Im here, bored as usual, doing a pile of work inbetween se4 turns as it seems to take forever, I have seen all the screen shots and so want to play sev!

from some of the things people have said, it seems stable enough, just waiting for new features to be added!

I beg can we just have a pre beta demo that is like what happened on se4 where everything works, but is just limited to 200 turns?

sign your name if you want this!

I know it will never happen, but its worth a try!

I was kinda expecting to be able to download a demo a few months before SEV was ready. I'm getting twitchy waiting for it myself.

no tribes, I WANT SPACE EMPIRES V!!!!!

(which tribes? talking about vengence... I dont have time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif I love space empires as it is such a fun game, and I can do work at the same time when my turn is going!)

everyone here knows that it is in beta, and frankly I cant talk for everyone, but i dont give a damn if the game crashes! I just want to play it, and see how good it is, I dont care if it is either play as long as you like, but limited (like starfury) or the full game, but limited to turns (last one), I just want to play it!

Thanks

(I'd be up for a game of Tribes 1. Not very good, though)

A demo for SEV before the full game comes out would be wonderful. I remember playing the very first SEIV demo over and over and over. It was version 0.51 and the A.I. was terrible, but even then the game was addictive. With that version, the A.I. always sent one ship at a time and never formed fleets. There were all kinds of fun bugs, like the ability to move your bases around by putting emergency propulsion on them. Ah, the memories! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

sounds fun! and I dont know about you, but I know this is a beta, and I really couldn't care less about bugs! I just want to give the game a try!

I hope there is a demo released very soon, with just 100 turns like SE 4...

I just want to play! I am bored as hell with this work, and unless there is a new system that makes turns go instantly, I will be fine to play and do work at the same time like now!

If a demo is released while the game is too unstable or even just has a lot of unimplemented features, it would probably turn a lot of people off the game...not to mention the bad reviews it'd get. Be patient, I know it's hard, but it is for the best.

Play 'Tribes' while you wait? Bah Humbug,.. you'll find me in Anarchy Online. It is so 'unlike' Se5 that it will not give you hunger pains or make you suffer the 'One more turn' syndrome. It will however give you the 'one more death' syndrome.

Seriously, this is a good time to broaden your gaming experience, try some other kinds of games. It will help pass the time. (the Bargain Bin is a great place to look while you wait.)

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I know what you are saying about turning a lot of people off, but at the same time there could be a warning when you turn it on that says:

this is a old build of space empires for the die hard fans that have been waiting for ages, please note that the game is still in beta, and there are a lot of unfinished features and changes that will make this diffrent from the real release.

age of empires 3 demo just came out, my healers traveled on their ar*es sideways, you cant delete buildings, you can tdo a lot of things, it is a buggy version, but they gave the fans something!

Ever the contrarian, I would like the current SEIV games to finish. I don't want to play a SEV beta and then have all my strategies changed by one code update, or added feature. Imagine how powerful missiles could be, and then have point defense enabled. Aaaagh!

Of course "play testing" and finding bugs is different. I wouldn't mind doing that.

exactly!

I am not stupid, I have done betas before where they change massive parts of the game before the release,

I just think it would be good to have a 200 turn limit, then have a .jpg or something that simply opens before the game saything, this is a pre beta demo for the fans who can not wait! massive areas will change and bugs you find will be fixed before the release.

something along them lines, it would be brilliant.

It sounds like you want an open beta - anyone can download and play a demo, as long as they promise to send bug reports...

You know, looking at this screenie here (http://www.malfador.com/SE5scr008.htm) , it looks like tactical ground combat over a large area will be possible. Maybe you could even select what part of the planet you want to land your troops on so as to be able to tactically take out ceratin facilities.....

The bummer is that SE:V and Kerberos' "Sword of the Stars" are probably going to come out at the same time.

And I have to wait for both of them.

Dammit.

Hey, I see a button for orbital bombardment on there! Woot! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif Calling in orbital strikes during tactical ground combat! Fantastic!

Hey, isn't that funny... the ship doing the bombing is a Xiati ship, even though the Xiati aren't IN Space Empires anymore... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Guess they wanted to keep it generic, so it did't look like the same race was doing all the bombing and stuff in the GUI http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
edit: well maybe they reused Xiati art for the Sithrak or Malfadorians (if Aaron was not kidding in that last chat when he mentioned them)...
Come to think of it, the Sithrak race portrait in Starfury was just a XiChung... kinda disappointing if you ask me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

The Xiati are still in Space Empires V, although the ships being used are more along the lines of the Star Fury design.

The ship in the button is not an SE:IV Xiati ship either.

You know, Aaron might allow us to take the released racial pics from SE5, and place them in SE4, for you people who can't wait for it to be released. Simple matter of copy and pasting, then trimming the picture down a bit...

Really? I must have missed them in the video... or perhaps they're not playable... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
I wonder what they look like, though... given the makeovers that some of the other races have gotten, I wonder if they'll look like the Meklars from MOO2... one of my favorite races, and they had the COOLEST diplo music! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
