well, at least I can make this thread useful: I'm looking for the best strategies mod, and didn't know which one to incorporate into my games.

Does anyone know if Ultimate Strategies Mod is compatible with 1.91?

Do you have a list of favorite strategies you employ?

And I was wondering if I were to install the Ultimate Strategies Mod, if I could immediately start to use them in my current games?

It'll be out soon. Aaron was finallizing things for it and SF last week so its only a matter of a week or so. The nice thing is you can pick up an old version of Classic SEIV on ebay or other, and then update that to deluxe when the patch comes out.

I am still going to buy Deluxe though. I want to do it just to say I did and to finally say to my friends: "SEE, it was sold in a store and has a box! Its a real game!"

I sent that list in too late for 1.91 patch, and sent it again when I heard about Deluxe. Don't know if he fixed anything, but he has the list (a version or 4 out of date, but he has it).

The delay might be a good sign, though. If all MM did was add the music system and some language files then it would have been an easy patch to create. If he is actually trying to fix some bugs, then we could understand why the delays. Good things come to those who wait...

Hey, it's October now, where's Deluxe? I was away on a trip for the past week and I was hoping to play it when I get back, and I got home about an hour ago. When they said September, did they say September 2005?

Kamog

Well, I guess I'm OK with waiting, but the later it comes out, the less I'm going to be playing it because the day SEV comes out is the day I'm switching to SEV. If Deluxe comes out, say, in December and SEV comes out in February, that's only 2-3 months of playing Deluxe.

Just get SEV out in time and I'll be extremely happy. It doesn't matter that much if Deluxe is late. I want SEV !!

Flenser
October 5th, 2005, 09:52 AM
I don't have a copy of SE4 at all so I would really like a copy now. Post here if you have a copy you have to sell for a reasonable price. PS. I don't consider the $59.90 price from gogamer.com on Amazon to be reasonable. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

On the other hand, I've been playing SEIV for around 5 years now. Lets think about that for a moment...

SEIV outlasted dozens, DOZENS of games on my hard disk. heck, it outlasted 3 PC's, an Xbox, a gamecube (and dozens of THOSE games too). Not to mention a few dozen books (Scifi, history, social studies) movies, TV shows, DVD's and blah, blah, blah.

Of all the money I have ever spent entertaining myself in the last 5 years, nothing even can hold a candle to the absolute value of SEIV for 49.95. How many games are on your hard disk now, that came out 5 years ago? If this is the type of game you like, I daresay the $50 will fade into meaningless for you real quick.

According to SpaceEmpires.net:

Aaron Hall of Malfador Machinations was questioned about the delayed release of the upcoming Space Empires IV Deluxe during a breif visit to the #SpaceEmpires IRC channel on irc.freenode.net earlier today.

When questioned about the missed September deadline, Aaron said, "SE4 Deluxe is on its way. Its working its way through the channels. Malfador There should be a downloadable version available in the next couple of weeks."

Aaron confirmed that the plan to create a patch for all current owners of SE4, both Classic and Gold, was still a go, stating, "I should be working on the big patch next week to get everybody up to SE4 Deluxe level." He further stated that updated mods would not be include in the patch, but they will be included in the full downloadable version of SE4 Deluxe.

Pricing is not yet fixed on the upcoming title.

The history file was posted on S1st forums. I believe that both of the 1.92 changes relate to SE4 choking on seekers targetting seekers.

Version 1.93:
1. Note - Strategy First release version.

Version 1.92:
1. Fixed - Rare Access Violation when executing orders.
2. Fixed - Rare error when processing a turn.

So briefly, the game no longer needs the CD ala Starfury, and now plays the tracks in a "Music" folder? So I can now drop newly supported mp3 files in there?

Yes that was the plan, it is possible it might only play files with a certin name though so you might have to rename your .mp3 files to what the game will be looking for.

Ed Kolis
November 8th, 2005, 04:47 PM
There was some discussion on IRC about mods breaking in Deluxe because the game can't find the file "2" for instance, 2 being one of the music tracks set in Settings.txt, which kind of indicates that Deluxe will let you set individual music tracks for each mod similarly to the way it works with Classic and Gold, the only difference being the Settings.txt field values are file names rather than track numbers... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Settings.txt now calls for track names. You have to just add new songs to settings.txt (and put them in the music folder) to get them used in-game.

I'm probably missing the point... is it that it is cool for mod based music? Otherwise is it any better than turning SEIV sound off and using your own music player?

Edit: Oh, does it mean you can play certain tracks for the mood? Like a combat track, etc.?

Fyron

Im glad about the fix, I always get the access violation around every 80 turns, it just happens randomly, but autosave and reload the turn fixes it, im glad it was recognised because when I posted about it I think people just said my pc was wrong...
