Will Deluxe be upgradeable for existing games like previous patches? Or will it not be compatible like non-Gold to Gold was?

Yes, I believe Malfador is releasing a patch to Deluxe.

But will it function like the patch from 1.84 to 1.91 where existing games can be upgraded?

Or will it function like when Gold came out and any non-Gold games could NOT be upgraded to Gold?

A third edition of Space Empires IV to be sold in retail stores by Strategy First, the publisher of Galactic Civilizations.
Deluxe will support more types of music than just CD-audio; I think the new formats are MP3 and MIDI, at least judging from the music support in Starfury.
Bugfixes and other enhancements may or may not be present; nobody really knows yet. Maybe (just maybe) Aaron will elucidate this tomorrow should he appear again on IRC???
David Gervais mentioned once that the game would sell for $19.99, and Aaron said that he plans to release a patch from both Classic and Gold to Deluxe, pending approval from Strategy First (but he has brought it up to them and they haven't *objected* yet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

The aim of Deluxe is two-fold:

1. Introduce the Space Empires franchise to new gamers
2. Bring users of Classic and Gold under the same banner

I don't think there are any data file changes, so SE:IV Gold games should be easily upgraded.

I've heard Ogg Vorbis. Yay for superior compression technology support!

I like new cames coming out with "DVD" boxes, like Battlefield (which I don't play) and Myst IV (which I do http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Will it be a cardboard box? Does anyone know? It would be cool if SE:V were in a plastic case...
