I recently added some new ships to my fleet and changed some of the pictures. When I resummed a game - all my ships have other names and the pictures are messed up as well!!! Wazzup widdat?

What exactly did you change? If you added ships to the ship text data, then you may well have messed it up.

I checked all the data in the VehicleSize file - it seems to be correct. But I fixed the problem by moving the added entries to the bottom of the list. Du'oh!

hah, yes. Its like that in all the files- if you want to preserve savegames DON'T change the order things appear in.

Things are refered to by their position in the file, not by their name..

Which I probably should have mentioned, but I have this bad habit of assuming other people know what I'm talking about, even if it's complicated.

You can add new entries to the end of data files, in which case the save game should be ok.
