After 2 months of delay, the online downloadable version of Space Empires IV Deluxe (http://www.strategyfirst.com/en/games/SE4Deluxe/) is available from the Strategy First store. SE4 Deluxe was originally slated for a September 2005 release, but this date was pushed back for unexplained reasons.

The game is being sold for $29.99 American. No boxed version is available as of yet. The patch from SE4 Classic/Gold to Deluxe is also not available for domnload yet.

No version history for deluxe on the Malfador web-site. Does anyone have a clue what the changes are?

Funny, could have sworn that SFI_Warmaster said they would be released simultaneously... Guess they caved to popular demand http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Didn't I say that??????? I clearly stated that it is not DELUXE.... Really. People have posted about not being able to find the 1.91 patch so there is a link now.

I've been playing PBW for a month now, and never have gone through a patch on the "stock" files. Will uploading the patch cause troubles with the stock games I'm playing?

Generally patches don't harm pbw games so it should be a straight-forward update.

Sure they do. The patch that drastically altered the nature of Ionic Dispersers (no longer skip shields) caused a lot of PBW games to not upgrade. So did the one that made Allegience Subverters not work against targets with damaged Master Computers.

I thought that change was from non-gold to Gold? And wasn't that change incompatable with existing games? I could be remembering that wrong.

So, what I should do is wait till somebody else tries the new patch with an existing stock PBW game to see if it hangs the game. Presumably if one game works they all will work. I just don't want to get into a situation of loading a patch, finding that it does not work, then downloading and re-loading the older version back.

I would copy over your SEIV folder and update the copy. This way you have both versions

ehh, sorry to interupt about people saying what will happen if they download the patch... is there a patch? on the link that atro gave, all I saw was the gold patch to 1.91, and that is what we all have anyway :S

My comment was based along the lines of bug fixes for this patch, and not gameplay "fixes". In that case, the answer is not so clear and depends on the game.

Pre-Gold games were upgradable to Gold, and many were upgraded. Gold was in essence a big patch... Mods were not compatible and required adding lines to many files. But if that is all that was done for the mod upgrade, the savegames could be upgraded to the Gold mod just as stock savegames were upgradable to the stock Gold mod.

Neither of the changes I mentioned averely affected savegames.
