The sound of cloaking & uncloaking changed. Was it due to the patch or did I have some long-forgotten sound mod installed?

You may have had old sounds used before. The sounds were redone in higher quality with the release of Gold. There is a "New" sounds folder that contains these sounds, allowing for the use of the new (to Gold) sounds or the older classic sounds. There is a toggle in the Options window (under main menu, not Empire Options) to switch.

someone should update the wiki with unofficial changes

The music is not awe inspiring to say the least.

Can anyone fill us in on the DOCUMENTED changes? Has this patch got any real changes?

If someone doesn't do it first, I'll post the history.txt file differences when I get home from work. In a nutshell, there are only a few, very minor, mostly undetectable during normal play changes. My opinion: I think the patch probably wouldn't have been issued at all except it changes the opening screen to advertise for the new publisher instead of Shrapnel Games. The exception is that it upgrades SE:IV classic to the latest revision; which was a sore spot that SE:IV Gold was not released that way. I don't want to raise any dead horses here so let's leave it at that.

Doh! I should have simply gone to malfador.com:

TRANSLATION: nothing has changed, just "cosmetic" Patch is not needed for Gold, really, unless you plan on playing with someone who bought from the new publisher...

Version 1.94:
1. Fixed - Game would error when loading old Settings.txt with track number fields.
The game will now allow either and translate tracks to music filenames.

Version 1.93:
1. Note - Strategy First release version.
2. Changed - Changed music to play MP3 files instead of using CD.
3. Added - Music volume selection in Game Options window.
4. Fixed - Starting a new game from within a game and then returning to the
main menu would leave the menu buttons disabled.

Version 1.92:
1. Fixed - Rare Access Violation when executing orders.
2. Fixed - Rare error when processing a turn.

Well, PBW will still need the patch I guess, unless we decide to shoot down any Deluxe user on sight (which seems unlikely).

So these are the only changes to the game? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif

If you want to play a mod with seekers targetting seekers, such as Carrier Battles, Adamant or the new version of Invasion in the works, this is untrue. It is best to upgrade to Deluxe...

What about all the stuff on the running bug/feature list...? Did any of those get added or addressed?

I don't think they did. However, it's been mentioned by MM that he isn't adverse to releasing future patches for SE:IV, so maybe one day.

I think the .mp3 functionality introduced in the patch is reason enough to update your Gold copies. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I doubt it. When I sent the list in, it was apparently too late for the deluxe print. The patch only seems to address the mp3 file names vs. track numbers.

is there any change or hope for the bugs to get addressed at a later date before SEV comes out?

btw, I've updated the wiki release version.

The trade-off to get another bug patch prior to SE:V is that SE:V would be delayed a bit.

But I suspect if SE:IV Deluxe does well, then we might see some sort of patch prior to SE:V's release... does that seem like a reasonable possibility?

Fyron, please explain. How do the use of these mods make Deluxe a necessity?

At this point, I have no intention of wasting my time downloading and installing a patch that does next to nothing.

There was a bug that would crash SE:IV when using a "seeking" point-defense weapon... i.e. seekers couldn't hit other seekers. This mods use such weapons.

Actually, for the seekers-vs-seekers thing is a host crashing issue. Once the replay is created, it should not be a problem.

However, there are other issues, such as the dissapearing political message glitch, and replays of beam animations firing at range zero.

It is a hefty patch though, so I reccommend that dialup users get it through the Torrent posted here.
You can download it a little bit at a time in the background.

Then, when you find you need it a week or a month later, you'll have it.

Are you saying that these bugs are undocumented fixes?

Hopefully. I haven't had a chance to test them yet.

I do hope that we will see more work on SEIV over the course of the next few months. There are still a few whopper bugs that need to be hunted down and beaten to death.
