Anyone here got an old copy of the original Elite? Maybe running on a Commodore 64 or other suitably nostalgic retrobox?
Grab screenshots of all the old wireframe ships and make a shipset!
Cobra MkIII - small transport.
Boa: Large transport
Gecko: escort
Moray Starboat: Frigate
Asp: battle cruiser
Thargoid: Carrier
Tharglet: fighter
Empire leader: Commander Jameson
Etc
Might be short a few images (Elite II: Frontier had a lot more) but it would be a great set to use.

I tried to do this with my old Windows version of Star General. That had several distinct race sets with multiple ships fpr each race. And a cool ship view page where you could rotate the ships in three dimensions to get the angle you wanted. Should have been able to make several cool shipsets with that. For some reason though none of the screenshots worked right. They lost a bunch of colors or something when I pasted them into my image software. Of course when it comes to graphics I don' treally know what I'm doing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Or how about a collaborative New Alliance of Free Stars shipset - between the various Star Control races there should be enough ships to fill one out http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I think there's a web site somewhere where you can download the original elite, as well as some other old games. You'll have to search for it though. I don't remember the URL
