Corporal Asmala salutes you!
362 days of military service are behind now and there's no doubt it's great to be in the reserve at last.

Hey, welcome back! So glad to see you made it through with all your bits and pieces still attached. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
No offense intended, but you look like a little kid playing dress up. Of course the these days all the soldiers are starting to look like little kids to me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Amen. I was inspired to look for pictures of myself in uniform... and guess what... I look like a kid playing dressup. That was a long time ago.
Guess that means we're old, eh?
Welcome back Asmala! Glad you made it in one piece. Thank you for your service.
May you live the rest of your days in peace!

Just a stab in the dark, but that looks like Finlands flag on his left shoulder. So, just maybe, he was in the Finnish Army. Just a guess. Am I right?

Welcome back, though to be honest I doubt the sanity of anyone willing to volunteer for military service, and pity those conscripted http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

As Fyron said I'm from Finland and here military service is compulsory for every man. So I wouldn't use the word join here since I didn't have choice.

I second that. I really wondered why those few women in the military were there, voluntarily.

The first half of the year was quite ordinary military service, including combat training, drills, camping in cold winter weather and other not so pleasant things. Afterwards it's surprisingly funny to reminisce how cold and unpleasant it was then, though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
The latter half of the year was much more interesting and enjoyable since I managed to get to a special training. Mostly I installed and spliced optical fibres but I also installed some CAT5/6 and telephone cables.
After all, in a way I lost a year of my life, but in exchange I got almost an endless amount of stories. In addition now I have a common topic with every Finnish man, and believe me, a group of Finnish men can spend hours to recalling the 30 years old military service events http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Honestly, most of them look no older... soldiers look pretty young... Still though, his uniform looks pretty "stock". Not much field time on it, but then again you normally break out your garrison uniforms for those pics. Sigh... Those were the days...

We have actually three uniforms, one for holidays, one for garrison and one for field time. The field uniform is terrible looking, and it's designed at year 62 (well, they look like most of them are made then too and used ever since http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif)
I took that picture a week before going to the reserve and I had returned already almost all of my stuff. Only had a holiday uniform and few necessary items.
David, the long hair was because I was going to home soon and the regular didn't care any more...

No, there are also chilling and rainy fall weather http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Actually it's sometimes +30C at the summer but it's rare. Anyway, +30C isn't much better than -20C, since you can't take the uniform off and lounge under the tree. Ever tried to run wearing an uniform and a combat vest when it's a sunny and a hot day? I can say you'll be dripping with sweat.

Ahhh, a warm welcome back to one of the masters of SE IV http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif. The first game I ever played against him was all the proof I needed to see that he would be among the best.
I guess it would be safe to say YOU aren't burned out on SE IV. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Or would it be better to say a year away from the game has cured you of all addiction? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
So, what are your plans now? More schooling or a job?

More schooling. I continue my studies in the Tampere University of Technology. I had time to study only half a year before military service so I have about five years left there.
I just visited the home page of SEV and found the screenshots. Wow, it looked wonderful, can't wait till April. I assume the April is still the publication day, right?http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif I hope some SEIV games would help the time of waiting.

Latest news (IIRC) is mid- to late-2006. IIRC.
But I'd rather wait that long and have a nice polished game that does everything it is supposed to, than get it in April and have a game with so many bugs it isn't really playable until the 1.26 patch http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Wouldn't you?

Well, perhaps it's better this way. But I can't help myself thinking that I could have both a buggy game now and a nice polished game later... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Alneyan, I'll be away from the city this weekend. It's your decision whether you want to put me on the Hill now or Monday. Either way I'm eager to see if I'll be able to get to that long queue of contenders. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Two wins, and a long patient wait for the challenger queue to clear you mean. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
