Over the last couple of months activity on this forum seems to have been falling off considerably. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
There was a time that I could go away for an hour and come back to read dozens of new posts. Now it seems like there is only one new post every hour.
When I think about all the time I have spent on this forum, reading, posting, and lurking over the last five years, I cannot help but feel a bit nostalgic over it.
I can remember when I first came here to post about SEIV and how new it was. Grant todays forum looks nothing like the old forum, but what the hey, progress. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Knowing that there are fewer days ahead than behind, I cannot help but wonder about all of the information that will some day be lost when Shrapnel decides to close this forum.
I enjoy thinking back over the years and reading old threads and re-discovering what made this place home.
I shudder to think about loosing the vast library of information that this forum contains, the many thousands upon thousands of posts about virtually every aspect of Space Empires IV from modding to strategy tips.
I would so very much hate to see the great posts of this site, from fan fiction through political off topic debates; lost forever. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
I know that I am kinda melodramatic about such things, but hey, when it comes to this forum, the members, and the content, its ok to be a bit dramatical. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I 'spose people get that way sometimes, AT. It's a damn good forum with lots of game-related stuff and great guys laying out OT stuff. Still laughing over the bowel movement the size of an arm (LOL).
I 'spect it has a bit to do with people burning out on SE4 somewhat and anticipating SE5 soon.
But, I guess this place is just a little bit like your "family" and it feels like when your kids grow up and leave home.
Well (smile), my take on it anyway.

I'll be here until the forum no longer exists, even when the day comes when SEIV no longer holds my attention the way it used to.

I don't see any reason to leave.
Besides, Shrapnel does make money off this...People here buy stuff here.

5 year old, buggy, broken UBB forums are painful to use. If Shrapnel shuts this place down, which it is my understanding that they are planning on never doing, it would IMO be better to use an actually maintained and updated set of forums. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

lol, if this forum (SE:IV) ever gets removed, all we need to do is hijack one of the other forums (DomII?),.. and make the subjuect heading of all our posts "OT:SE4 You can't get rid of us that easy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif "
lol, I seriously doubt shrapnel will close it's most popular forum. This is where the heart is after all.

I would love to have the skill and ability to program the games I have ideas for. I would then sell them through shrapnel. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

It's remarkable this forum has gone on for as long as it has. Sure, it's slowed down but it'll pickup again when they are new things to talk about.

Dudes - What some of you are forgetting here, is that this is the largest, most active community on the entire message board.
I just spent several minutes of my life adding up thread and post numbers, and these are the results;
-Threads in forums other than SE forum: 9163
-Posts in forums other than SE forum: 117941
-Threads in SE forum: 14631
-Posts in SE forum: 252586 (now 252587)
QED.

That's just because it is 5+ years old... The Dominions forums were getting more posts per day for a while, maybe a lot more now that this forum has slowed down so much.

Well I know personally I haven't even reinstalled SEIV on my new pc and haven't played it in about 6 months. I'm certainly burned out on it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
I can imagine my posting will sky rocket, as will mosts, when SEV is released. Or even just a Demo Version.
Mostly these days I'm here for the community. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Same here, only one of the main reasons for me not playing anymore is SEIV not working..... haven't yet had the time to uninstall/reinstall it, but I might soon.

I haven't played a solo game in some time, but still have a few pbw games going and continue to actively mod.

My posts will go sky-wards when SE V comes out.
Haven't installed SE IV on my new PC's yet (Had them for about a year).

I go to four places regularly on the internet, and anything else is usually just a search for information or new download/update.
This is the first place I go. Always.

I'm still here, I read the forum everyday, I just don't post as much as I'm tied up with a number of PBW and PBEM games of SEIV and WITP

Ironically it's picked up marginally this new year, but the long term trend does appear to be downwards.
I think that might explain the rash of posting in the "something worrying" thread. It's something new in this forum, a topic that we haven't gone over recently (ever?)
Compare that to almost every aspect of SE:IV, they have been talked over to death and now we're into repetition.

Whenever im here, i feel like THIS is community. A bunch of "hardcore"-guys who are still sharing their thoughts and sticking together, even though the boards-main-reason-of-existence (SEIV) is still burned out.
I think most of us, who are still here, are geeks, to some extend at least. This makes me feel confident (?).
And im glad there are no 14 year old cs-fanboys here as well. At least i hope so.

Zwuh? Burned out?
Say, have you seen my latest; Carrier Battles mod (http://imagemodserver.mine.nu/other/MM/SE4/Mods/CarrierBattles/)?
Its gotta be one of the simplest mods around, in terms of "number of things", but it is probably the most complex in action on PBW.

I completly agree with the guys saying that this forum will skyrocket when SEV comes out. I mean if you really pay attention to who posts regularly, many of the new posters here asted something like a month and then dropped out, while the rest of us are just rediscussing old strategies and stuff like that. I really think that this forum won't die.
On a more happier note, if it were'nt for this forum, I would never have discovered Schlock Mercenary and the joy of online Comics.

Well, said "burned out", because, basicly, SEIV IS burned out. If it wouldnt, there would be far more posters here. There would be more mods in general, AND i feel like action on pbw is decreasing steadily within the last months. Im not saying there are no people playing it anymore, but interest is falling with every other day, unless its winter holiday season that is http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I'd post more often if I could get my old user name restored. I've PMd Richard about it but no reply.
Without the user name one has established over a period of years, people don't recognize you and you don't really feel like a part of the community anymore.
Everybody knows "Atrocities" and "Suicide Junkie." How would you guys feel if you lost your password or changed your email and had to adopt the user names "Jimmy" and "Bugs" in order to post here?

You could always set your name to "Antonin_", say.
I had the same problem as you. At some point years ago, the forum choked on my name during an update or something. Probably didn't like the space in my login.
So I'm currently under a very slightly different login.
The display name is independent of your login name, BTW.
Try changing it in your personal settings.

We do have a message on the Strategy First forum directing people to come here, don't we?
I'm really surprised we haven't seen many more new players washing up here after getting the game in the SE4 Deluxe release. Then again, what new players there are may be unlikely to find this forum, is all I can think.

The Strategy First forms have an average of 5-10 posts per day, but it's mostly Shrapnel regulars answering a few newbie questions.
